Great excitement this afternoon as the Olympic Torch rode into the village next door to us.
As you can see the weather was atrocious, so bad it's set burglar alarms off & interrupted TV programmes but did that deter us...of course not we are British & used to the rain!
We queued up in the rain for an hour under some trees but I must say after thinking, well we had better go & look , never be in our area again, I was so glad we went!
Super shot, all the waving arms greeting the flame. I'm looking forward to my chance of a shot on the 19th July. The rain has created super shadows on the tarmac :)
Woohoo!! I see on the news that they had to relight it in Blackpool because it got drowned by rain. I bet the City Council was fed up - great chance to publicise the new prom and that's what happens. Big excitement in our house as Nigel has been asked to put on a karate demo with his club in the middle of town while waiting for the torch to arrive - hope they've got gazebos planned. I think there's a special 'torch' tag somewhere.
@judithg Good for Nigel, he will enjoy it Judith, there is a terrific atmosphere with policemen doing the 'high fives' all along the rows of spectators. I didn't know Nigel was a Karate expert, the whole family mus turn out for that ! What day is that ? Will check the tag !
An great pic of the Britishishness of it all! The grey day and the crowds regardless of the rain. And as you say, a once in a lifetime thing, so worth getting a bit wet for!
@judithg Ah I knew there was a connection with Lesley but didn't realise it was the Karate. Nigel a club too, good for him he must love it! Not up your street then? I go to Callanetics twice a week to keep me supple & I do enjoy that but really would rather read a good book!
Rain or not, I would be there too, Pat. It's a once in a lifetime event and worth seeing AND getting this wonderful photo op! Fabulous capture. Very exciting!!
great stuff Pat - well done for braving the weather - feel sorry for the torch bearers, must be nice for them to see everyone out too! it comes our way in 2 weeks!
Who was the bearer ?
