I have posted a rhubarb shot before cooked in a bowl but i took my P&S camera out today & there is a lens error & it wouldn't work....I felt like I had an arm missing!!!
I bought this lovely rhubarb so took a shot with my big camera before I cut it up.
Forced rhubarb is grown in a 9 mile triangle between Wakefield, Morley & Rothwell in Yorkshire.
Two year old crowns are taken into massive sheds in November & kept in complete darkness & warmth. They used to heat the sheds with coal which was plentiful & cheap in that area.
The rhubarb grows quickly searching for light & is very tender & sweet.
In 2010 the Yorkshire growers were awarded the Protection Designation of Origin by the European Commision after foreign rhubarb was found to be impersonating locally grown rhubarb
It's quite a sight when you see it growing in the dark sheds, almost as fast as the eye can see.
I buy lots as it freezes well & is so good for you!
Three good things:
1. New Sky box & cabelling.
2. Flowers on both mums graves for Mothers Day.
3.Hake was half price in Booths today...guess whats for supper!
I read that wrong and thought your hake was from Boots!!! It did make me wonder for a minute - was it next to the face creams? Lol. Nice shot of the rhubarb. Love it dipped in sugar!! Or in a crumble, yum!
The rhubarb is nicely placed and cut to make a good photo! Ours didn't grow well but then I didn't pick i! Too many apricots, peaches and nectarines to cook or eat!
Mmmmm - love it - my rhubarb is teasing me by growing slowly! Wish I had a nice terracotta forcer. I hadn't realised the forced cropped were grown in such a small area. I'm going up to Wakefield for the next big hockey do - I'll be on the look out!
Wow - I had thought (before I read) that your rhubarb had already grown!!! Ours is still buried under snow. Didn't know you could force it. Not that I need any in a hurry. I can just look at yours :)
@ellida My account above is riddled with confusion & I laughed when I realised how it sounded...... shows you should not write in a hurry & check everything!!!!
I hope your lens is okay...I know the feeling of only having not having a properly working camera. I have never eaten a rhubarb, looks delicious..almost like a red celery!!
My favourite!!!! and we don't get it very often, and when we do it's extortionately expensive imported stuff which is floppy with age!!! Fabulous focus and POV.
Great food shot, Pat! Love rhubarb. I'm going to have to start over this year as my rhubarb was at the house we sold last summer. New garden starting this spring - so it will be a while before I have my own homegrown rhubarb. What is your favorite way to use it?
PS Hope your big camera's ok after cutting it up ;-)
