My trusty ironing press came in good use today, thirty pillow cases plus lots of sheets to iron.
Not as hard a job as you think....I quite enjoy it really, I'm sitting down in a warm kitchen watching afternoon TV, whats not to like!!
Took this with the timer btw!
I'm reading a very unusual book at the moment called Wool by Hugh Howey...has anyone read it?
I read a sample on Kindle & got wanting more, this is the advantage with Kindle you see you can test before you buy!!!
A story of people living in an underground silo, the world outside unfit to live in, rather fascinating & not what you would exactly call ''chick lit'' but different!!!!
Three good things:
1. Rice Pudding in the oven.
2. My coat is enjoying London!! ( I lent my well loved Barbour jacket,3 years old, to Cathy to go to London in)
3. Sewing B programme on TV tonight...I am no sewer but will be interesting I think.
I think seamstress is a better word than sewer!!!!ha ha.......heard the author being interviewed on the radio, sounds really interesting........you are such a good girl, I have never been able to work out how to iron king size sheets on mine!! Pillow cases and napkins thats my lot!!!
@fannyb Oh I have no king size here Fanny, only double & single & it's all in the folding LOL ! Seamstress is a much better word ...I did look & think have I written a drain!!!!!!
I would iron my sheets too if I had a nifty iron press like that. I haven't read "Wool", but I'm putting it on my list. Always like a good book recommendation. :)
I don't envy you the ironing job but the cosy day in sounds enviable. Rice pud sounds good too. I wonder how many people still make it from scratch? I have to admit I do mine in the slow cooker these days.
@busylady Well you would if you had an oven on all the time like me Judith ...took me a couple of minutes to put stuff in a dish & shove it in the oven....been in 3 hours now so should have a nice skin on it!!!!!!!
@happypat I thought it sounded like "Dog Stars"...I really enjoyed that book. Have you read "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy? It's another post-apocalyptic tale. Very well written.
@peggysirk I noticed on my Kindle that the people who read Wool also read The Road too so will no doubt have ago at that except will be awhile as there are 5 books in the Wool series I think!!!!
What a gorgeous homely feeling to this shot with the warm glowing light from the far room .I do not envy you the pile of ironing , but do envy the rice pudding cooking slowly in the aga/ rayburn (it's not the same from an electric cooker !! )
@jgpittenger@beryl I think it was the best one I have ever made...creamy & a lovely golden skin ...there is nothing left!!!! I did take a photo for if I am stuck tomorrow!!!
My mother had a press like this - much easier than ordinary iron! You would have had tons of linen to do! Nice too see the fire going as well as the TV!
I'm so sorry you were doing all this ironing. Mine is in the laundry room in the basement gathering dust. My mom has one set up all the time in her dining room.
I also enjoy ironing although the only things I iron are my husbands cotton pants and shirts. Everything else is permapress.
Such an informal, cozy shot.
Love the warm feel of your kitchen shot. That's the best way to do the ironing! I haven't heard of the book, but will be interested to hear how you enjoy it.
You are so industrious. I'd love an ironing press but ast the moment I have the bloke down the road who has a steamer and who is very reasonably priced...so he'll have to do instead.
I haven't ironed since my husband retired!!! Ooo ironed sheets do feel nice, though. Especially if they've been hung out on the line. I want to make my reservations now to come and stay!!!
Trying to see if the secret is having proper sheets and not fitted which are a pain in the neck to iron!! Your machine looks like a necessity for a busy B&B. Cash in the Attic? My guilty pleasure is Homes under the Hammer - forever associated with Adam having his tonsils put but I like ironing to it!
@judithg Well I started off with Escape to the Country which is my favourite & then it went on to The real Deal but not too keen on the presenter ....my faves are all the house programmes whatever the subject!
Fitted sheets are a nightmare but to be honest I wouldn't bother with ironing sheets just use poly cotton but I like crisp cotton for the B&B & they do need ironing unfortunately!!Homes under the hammer is great but you have to see the end result!!
@jewelsandbinoculars Thank you for your comment & I am enjoying Wool, something very different to what I normally read. Apparently they are making it into a film.
Woo rings a bell to me but I haven't read it. Just finished 'The Hundred Year Old Man Who Jumped Out of the Window and Disappeared' which I enjoyed. Was it you who said that you like Harold Fry? We used to rent out a holiday cottage and my Mum used to run it for us. Bought her one of these presses and she loved it.
I can't believe how far behind I have gotten. Being the grandchildren for a week leaves very little 365 time. Waiting for my cab to the airport at the moment so I think I'll do a little catch-up. I actually saw this post, Pat, but must not have stopped to comment. Love the cozy look and feel of your home. . . and to crawl into ironed sheets must be heavenly. I've made a note of the book you are reading. Think I'll check it out after I finish "Loving Frank".
I cleared my ironing pile today too - what a good feeling!
Such an informal, cozy shot.

Hadn't heard of 'Wool' before but have just had a read of some online reviews - sounds interesting!
