Oh the indignity of it all.........Henry with his feet in the air having his annual trim.
To be truthful we were quite worried about him at the time, he went very limp & did think he might be dying but all was well in the end.
I could hardly bear to look at one point, Graham said if he weed on the top during clipping he would be dying, apparently it isn't uncommon but he waited til he got down ...good old boy!!!!
I think he was just very tired & stressed. He hasn't come home yet because it was a chilly damp night & Graham has kept him in the barn were it's warm.
He has had two shots of Penicillin for his lame foot so all ready for the summer.
Next year will be a worry as he is getting old & the stress is not good for old sheep but all that wool is too hot for him in the summer.....might have to try & clip him by hand at home with shears.
His field looks very empty!!
Three good things:
1. Henry is still alive!!
2. New TV up & running all plumbed in by John this morning.
3. I have successfully moved Electricity supplier!!
In a rather strange twist of parallel fates, Ben also needs haircut!! (See my post on your previous shot!!), but if he wees on the floor he'll be in big trouble!! Glad to hear Henry is ok! Great rural shot.
Oh bless him! I feel quite emotional that he's ok. Maybe a stand up pruning at home next year will be safer for everybody's nerves. Fancy them dying from shearing - I bet Graham was on tenterhooks. I stood outside the groomers and spied on Monty having his haircut this afternoon. He was struggling to stay awake but if he sees me he wriggles too much to have his feet cut properly so I have to hide.
Goodness me, I didn't know they could die from being sheared, must be very traumatic!! I think I'd do a home clip from now on. Give an old man his dignity! Lol.
@jesperani I was a bit shocked how traumatic it was , he was heaved from side to side & wouldn't sit up straight so made it very difficult for the shearer. I think definitely a home cut next time!!
@judithg I think Tui could do with a good day at the groomers!! Harry has promised to bath her tomorrow!! I'm sure dogs love being clean & sweet smelling & my word I like them like that too!!!!!!!
@barrowlane No it's gone in the sack with the others, goes towards paying ...incidentally the wool price doesn't cover the cost of the shearing, strange when wool items are so expensive!!
@maggiemae They do get a little grey & dirty round the rear end I suppose but the fleeces will be cleaned at the wool place. I really hope he will be like a spring chicken dancing about !!
Aaaw Pat ,the indignity of it all!! So glad that Henry was OK after his ordeal and that he was kept in the barn overnight for warmth ! Love the shot a truly real action image Hope he's back home with you now
Your story reminds me of my Maggie - dog not sheep. Because of her Addison's Disease we do her grooming at home now. She isn't quite as pretty but she doesn't mind a bit. We usually work on her over several evenings for her sake and for my back. We love them, don't we. Give Henry a hug - if you hug sheep.
I must admit that I see a bit of humour in this picture. I know poor Henry is stressed, but, it is a comical pose! (I promise I won't let him hear me snicker though!)
Oh, Bless Henry's heart...I didn't realize shearing was so strenuous and traumatic for both sheep and shearer. That's quite a physical process. So relieved to read that Henry made it through the ordeal. And I see now why he hasn't returned home. It's good that he's tucked up nicely in a warm barn. I hope he's recuperating nicely and that the antibiotics are working wonderfully on his poor foot. I like the idea of a hand clip next spring. Wish I were close enough to come help you give that a try. :)
oh goodness...poor Henry, though I suppose if we were tipped upside down for a haircut in our golden years it might not be so good for us either!! glad he is fine
