Our son in law works at British Aerospace in Salmesbury.
Many a time especially in the summer he will cycle to work & if he crosses the River Ribble in between Alston & Balderstone he can save himself 4 miles in distance, its at its widest point here & has an island in the middle.
It comes up to his knees at the deepest point but the real danger is the slippery stones!
He is quite well known as the man who crosses the river to work!
He set the timer himself on these photos & I thought you all might be quite interested.
The left hand photo is taken from the central island.
Three good things:
1. I have been out to lunch at the Cartford Inn.
2. A friend & I went to the Great British Lighting Co & ordered some wall lights for our sitting room when the decorator has been.
3. Still warm & sunny even though rain was forcast!
It looks a wide river! I used to bike through rivers too but I found the most difficult thing was not the slippery and hard stones, but getting the socks on afterwards!
@maggiemae Yes it's pretty wide maggiemae & often floods in the winter so no crossing then!! Very difficult with wet feet & am sure Garth would agree there!!
Great story, I never heard of somebody like this before. My hsuband uses his bike to commute to work 10 miles one way , everyday besides when we have high snow, but there are nos rivers to cross
Your weather has been so much better than ours!! What a great commute - wet feet and all - actually @fueast has a 'wetfeet' tag! My dad worked at Warton and my cousins work at BAe as well - maybe Warton too but I'm not sure.
