A big day in the Great Eccleston area as today is Tractor Pulling weekend.
Thousands of people descend on the show field tonight & tomorrow to watch grown men play on tractors.
John & Lorena from house no 7 down our lane are keen participents. Normally they load the tractor on a trailer but this year John & his helpers have converted this bus into a sort of tour bus.
Inside this vehicle is the tractor itself called Simply Red, bunk beds, cooker, shower etc & everything you would need when they go abroad to compete...a very expensive hobby!!!
You can tell the way they are walking they are on a mission....they did give me a tour round the bus though.
Three good things:
1. A full house of B&B tonight....one of the advantages of the tractor pull!
2. A long awaited new baby girl called Pepper!
3. A problem solved with Lightroom...hopefully!
Well, tractor pulling! You can't get more 'English Village' than that!! Although I note they also compete abroad! Fascinating! Do they pull the tractors? Or does the tractor have to pull something? Forgive my ignorance, no excuse, I come from the countryside but this doesn't happen around us. We just have ploughing a straight furrow! Haha!
@tishpics I aso knew nothing much about the sport until we moved here but it's reall y popular round here with some local farmers taking part. A sport more popular in Germany, Holland, America I believe, Harry says we only play at it here.
The idea is that the tractors pull this weighted sledge along a specially designed track & the tractor that pulls it the furthest is the winner. There are different categories for different size tractors. The roar of the machine & the smoke flying is awesome especially at night when the sparks are visible.
There is much drink & hot dogs consumed!!
How very bizarre? Do they award silver cups?! But it makes a striking diptych and full B&B is not to be sneezed at! Thanks for sharing.
Welcome to Pepper!
@quietpurplehaze Yes indeed cups to win..Thanks for congrats on Pepper, our butchers new granddaughter...unusual name & her second name begins with P too so it quite rolls off the tongue!
Wow I take back everything I've ever said about karate now - its a bargain compared with buying a bus to carry a tractor! What exactly does tractor pulling entail Pat? I quite like Pepper for a name!
@judithg I was a little startled I must say but it goes beautifully with the surname ...a name you will not forget! See answer to Patricia above for explanation re tractor pulling.
Great shot! Hope it was a better day in Great Ecclestone than in Oldmeldrum.......grey and rain and more grey and more rain.
And Pepper sounds very apt for a granddaughter of a butcher. I'm sure all his customers will enjoy getting updates on how she is doing!
They have a tractor pull in a little place called Bessiebelle which is in Victoria here Pat - not sure that they have lovely red tops like this though.
