A frosty start this morning with a layer of white frost on the fields.
Harry's vegie patch is empty & bare with only a rhubarb root under the bucket.
The caravan you see is a workman's brew place & hope fully will be gone next Spring.
This is looking north towards the Lake District but no mountains to be seen today.
Three good things:
1. An extra blanket on the bed.
2. The village Christmas tree is up but not yet decorated.
3. A great discussion about the merits & cons of veal in the butchers this morning........everyone in the queue had an opinion!!
Wow Pat what a view! No frost here and if we did we wouldn't have a vista like this.... I'm feeling really bad about my veg patch now - I cleared one bed but the other is over run by mint and convolvulus.
@quietpurplehaze@dh A guy in the butchers asked if they had any veal so then a long discussion started where most people said they wouldn't be able to eat veal & the poor little calves hadn't had any life etc etc. One or two said that they wouldn't eat it on principle, a couple said they had tried it & didn't object too much. I said through experience that when our dairy cows calved & they had a bull calf in the old days they would just be shot within days....a hateful thing to happen but now with the newish trend in eating veal at least they have a life. The old days of keeping veal calves in small pens are gone & although their life is short they are reared in clean pleasant barns with plenty of straw & light. It was very interesting to hear how most people considered the ideal way but with no thought of having to actually make a living. Delena is right to say imported veal is not always reared to the same high welfare standards we have here in the UK.
Sorry lecture over...I seem to have got on my high horse here!!
I love this shot Pat. I've seen some veal practises which are pretty disturbing, but perhaps no more so than some other meat raising practises. It sometimes doesn't help to actually know what's going on.
Lovely viewed large - the sepia was a perfect choice to bring out all the textures!! Makes me think of the opening of the movie "Great Expectations" Hmmm- I have never covered my rhubarb. Am I supposed to?
What a stunning late November view. This is exquisite in a sepia tone...makes it feel even more autumnal. I believe an extra blanket on the bed is a very good idea. Stay warm and cozy, Pat!
Lovely shot and I did enjoy reading about the discussion and your informed view from experience!! I've only had veal once I think and it was a long time ago.........but I did enjoy the meal!
