Such creative skill in the art of dry stone walling. The counties of Yorkshire, Lancashire & Cumbria are blessed with miles of these beautiful walls. If you go to any of the local agriculture shows the dry stone walling organisation are putting on demonstrations ...we had some stay here regularly.....a wonderful craft to learn which hopefully is alive & kicking still.
Looking at this photo just now I think some would say I should straighten it but it was taken on a hill side so I am loth to change the incline of the area.
Three good things:
1. Gamesmanship.
2. I have my Kindle back after lending it to Cathy...forgot how handy it is to read compared to the iPad.
3. Nothing to do!
An incredible part of our countryside. I still stare in wonder as, even in the remotest of areas, dry stone walls can be seen snaking their ways over the fells.
@padlock oh yes ...sorry Derbyshire very remiss if me...because I have only been to that county once I forgot about them...thank for reminding me Padlock.
Great shot Pat.. Yes it is a great craft.. there is an area around Whangarei ( North of Auckland) that has dry stone walls and they look fantastic.. there seems to be a surge of modern ones going up at the moment but they look no where as good.. Foxgloves look good to..
Nothing to do sounds good - I'm just getting stuff ready to go away, including Jinks' stuff as he's off to the dogsitter tomorrow and has not yet learnt how to pack his bag! Like your drystone wall and the foxgloves.
No it looks perfectly lovely as it is. Dry stone walling is definitely alive and kicking. We've met people in other parts of the world who have a dry stone wall society!
I'm sure there is a name for these drystone walls but I can't find it. It is interesting reading about it - where they are found, and Otago in NZ is one of them! They just last forever. I can imagine the road beside this picture and looking at the lovely scenes alongside!
Brilliant wall, A great art. David built a dry stone wall in our garden in Cyprus. Not very high but it looked really good. He had dug up loads of flat stones and rocks and of course had to play with them. ha ha.
