My favourite pier of the three, in fact the only one I ever visit.
Built in the 1860's this Grade 2 listed building is the oldest & longest of the three Blackpool Piers. It was always supposed to be for the 'better class'' clientèle & was the only pier that charged an entry fee.
Orchestras & the more respectable comediennes featured here & to this day there are no brash fairground rides or 'kiss me quick' hats.
It has a sort of faded glory about it with mini golf, a splendid Victorian roundabout & that's pretty much it.
I treated myself to an ice cream & sat on the benches listening to Engleburt singing The Last Waltz over the tannoy.
Three good things:
1. A sit in my chair with a book this afternoon.
2. Nobody has named me to do the ice bucket challenge!! I do hope this is not an invitation!! Please...too old!
3. As I look into the kitchen I can see Harry emptying the dish washer!!!
An unusual song to be listening to on this ancient pier! Faded glory are the right words, I should think but at least it hasn't been burnt down or fallen down!
@newbank I have just finished Mrs Sinclair's Suitcase......took me ages to get into it as it moves backwards & forwards a lot but when I did I really enjoyed it. There was a free little booklet in one of the Sunday magazines to wet your appetite!
@maggiemae It was quite badly damaged I believe on the 12th February this year....i remember the date as it was the evening I was flying to NZ & no planes could take off....delayed my journey by a whole day. It seems to be all repaired again now.
@graemestevens thanks Graeme........It's a rather nice pier! @helly31 the only one of the piers that you can see to the other end without being obstructed Helen. Thank you.
Love this shot and so good in B&W. Fav! Good old Harry - that's Peter's job too. I sat down to read this afternoon too but then a friend called round and then it was tea-time. Ah well there's always tomorrow.
@helly31 the only one of the piers that you can see to the other end without being obstructed Helen. Thank you.
Once again, love the b&w processing.
