The Local

Great Eccleston has two pubs...the one above is the most popular, owned by the same family for years its your basic everyday pub where people go for a basic meal & a chat with the locals.
There is also a small Italian Restaurant which is very popular, a posh fish restaurant called The Farmers Arms & of course the fantastic local chippy where you can sit in with a glass of wine.
Can't forget the nicest which is in Little Eccleston called The Cartford Inn.
Looking at the wedding pictures of George Clooney & all the expensive celebrations I can hardly believe it's the same man that was chatting to our neighbours over a game of dominoes in the Cartford a couple of months ago.

The White Bull is opposite the bus shelter scene of yesterday's table for one. The fish & chip shop is next to the bus shelter.

Three good things:
1. We won the Ryder Cup......have spent the whole day glued to the TV watching some wonderful golf. Both sides played with great skill & such a great atmosphere....we loved it!
2. Just started the new Penny Vincenzi book.....seems to be her usual standard...light & fun to read with lots of characters to get your head round as usual.
3. The electric blanket on for half an hour while reading in bed.
Looks like a great place to go for a Sunday lunch and Ale...

George Clooney what?? Nothing like a good old fashioned put serving good old fashioned food.

I think George Clooney is a decent sort of bloke. While filming at Duxford he turned up at the local sports centre to use the gym (with Matt Damon!) - just the council one - very basic and nobody calling ahead etc and he was charming.

Well you can't beat the village pub. Do you have Sky then? My Dad was complaining about the lack of golf on the BBC.
September 28th, 2014
@fueast yes we have had Sky for ages but have been dithering wether to get rid of it as the price has risen to £ 62 a month & that's not with films! My word though it was worth every penny this weekend! When you consider how much you can spend going out in the evening lots I suppose it's relativly cheap & of course we don't havd to pay for a TV license as one of us has reached that age.....not me!!

A lovely capture , looks a friendly place with all the benches outside !
September 28th, 2014
Lovely scene! Great that it has outside seating! Love the George Clooney stories. @judithg
September 28th, 2014
@judithg he's been to the Cartford twice Judith & is very approachable amazing when you consider its not big ...small but beautifully formed I think!! Him too!!
September 28th, 2014
@happypat what's his connection with Little Eccleston then?
September 28th, 2014
@happypat oo thats Pricey. No wonder my Dad won't fork out. Netflix is pretty reasonable for films.
September 28th, 2014
@judithg he called for a meal while filming in the Lytham area I believe. Patrick & Julie who own tha Cartford used to have a restaraunt in Lytham so whether someone recommended their new place I have no idea. They are very discreet & don't mention it but us locals do to all & sundry!
September 28th, 2014
@happypat haha! Well very flattering that he came back again as well.

Such lovely buildings
September 28th, 2014
Lovely day for a pint and a chat in the fresh air, nice composition.
September 28th, 2014
Love the way you dropped George Clooney into the conversation! I tried to see him at Duxford but failed! Great pub shot Pat. Those men remind me if some men sitting outside a pub In Gt Abindgton last weekend. I was collecting conkers for my aunt (something go to do with spider deterrent) and whilst proudly walking off with my shoe box full they yelled "show us your conkers". Bet your punters were much more polite to you!
September 28th, 2014
@lucypics oh hilarious Lucy.....the scoundrels! I think I am too long in the tooth to be shouted at like that these days! LOL.

Great capture

This is such a charming scene with such a sense of place, and your narrative was very helpful. I can so relate to the electric blanket comment too!
September 28th, 2014
Don't think there a re many pubs left that have been owned by the same people for years. Nice looking pub.
September 28th, 2014
nice village life Pat, will work in mono too, I ditched sky sports last year as it never showed Bolton Wanderers !!!...that and the fact it is pretty expensive too !
September 28th, 2014
We don't have pubs like this in our area - they are quite different even though they might be 100 years old! Are those homes on either side of the pub? I don't forget the unique character of theCartford either! All those mushrooms!
September 28th, 2014
I wish the US had cool places like this!
September 28th, 2014
Ah yes, I remember it well! We didn't eat here but the Farmer's Arms was very nice.
September 28th, 2014
@maggiemae yes they are houses maggiemae on the left as welook at the photo but on the right thete are first a small buisness then the beauty treatment place I go to sometimes, then after that there is a men's clothes shop. Then the dentist all in the same block of red bricked buildings.
September 28th, 2014
Looks like a wonderful place to sit and relax. And I could use one of those beauty treatments for sure.
September 29th, 2014
@judithg yes I hope he is happy in his new marriage.....it's a good thing now he is getting older.....you can't be the gay bachelor forever!
September 29th, 2014
Ps I use that in the old fashioned sense!
September 29th, 2014

No 3 sounds like my half hour in bed with my hot water bottle tucked under my toes!! Bliss.
September 29th, 2014
