Went to pick our Christmas tree this morning.....we wanted one abou 6 foot but not so bushy at the bottom.
Spent the afternoon decorating up, all finished & hoovered up , went through to the hall & the darn thing had toppled over lights & all!
We will have our tea then tackle it again.
Three good things:
1. A surprise Christmas parcel from my lovely 365 friend from NZ which arrived today. (See extras photo)
2. All the house mostly decorated ready for our grandaughter who arrives from NZ on Tuesday.
3. A night in by the fire.
@busylady we have re set it Judith so fingers crossed....if it doesn't stay up this time the whole thing will have to be taken out again & put in a different stand. The artificial one we have in the sitting room isn't half the trouble!
Feeling mean now that I didn't do the tree for Rachel. She arrived hungry and really grumpy and has now gone off to do some studying (so not feeling TOO guilty!). She did get a lot more cheerful half way through the Red Poll beef (but fattier than my usual but tasty)! You're going to have a great time with Alex - bet she can't wait to catch up with friends and have a proper cold Christmas!
@judithg I was going to wait until Alex arrived so she could help but mum said have it all ready.......good job we did ....it's still standing as I write this so hopefully all is well. A little earlier than I normally put it up so hope it isn't bare by the time tha actual day arrives! Interesting about the beef! Rachel is home early......last year perks oerhaps....Jack isn't home til the 19th.
@happypat only home for the weekend Pat - she finishes next weekend and goes to Martinique for Christmas with her friend who's doing her language year there. 19th is late though!
@judithg oh yes I remember now ......lucky girl, that will be some experience! You will miss her though! Sounds like you could have done with her help at Chrustmas too with all those mouths to feed!
@happypat yes - it won't be the same & I think she'll be sad to miss the chaos though she would probably get fed up with three loud boys! I will be putting Adam's waiting skills to good use.
I see Harry is waiting patiently as the tree was packed for you ! But what a calamity to have it topple over after all that work -- never mind I am sure it will be right the second time !! I had hoped to get my tree (artificial ) sorted today but thing did not go to plan . as I have some cleaning and tidying to do first !! then Gary took me out to lunch ! and then I had two visitors in quick succession !!Enjoy your night in by the fire
I'm sure your house will be cosy and bright with happy ornaments! Alex will love all the familiar things and enjoy a cold Christmas. Ours will probably be cold too the way the weather is going!
OH no... it fell over! We've had a fake tree for the past several years but we're going real this year. We're waiting though until my sister arrives from Australia to all go get it together.
@fueast he he Alison.......you could be right! For years I put the tree up on my own when Harry was busy farming but now he is retired things go wrong big time!
@maggiemae oh dear hope you have sun & your Christmas dinner out on the deck.....or on the beach!! Must say I think Christmas is a happy break in the middle of a gloomy winter...don't know if I could be bothered the same if it was beautiful & warm with other things to do!
Love this Pat it tells a story we are all too familiar with. it's finding one with a straight trunk that will fit into the holder that causes us a problem. If we fail it's major surgery with the saw to get it to fit.
Hope to get our tree on Monday. ....I'm sure lots of us have fallen tree stories! I still laugh at the time our one was just not in quite the right place after I'd decorated.....and I asked Allan to move it ( on its low table) and....
well he delights in dramatising the story.
so exciting to have family coming so far for Christmas. Have a lovely time with Alex and all the other preparations. X
@thistle@sarah19 Well as you can both see the holder we took with us is rather shallow....would have been better letting the guy fit it into a piece of wood as was doing for others...we live & learn! Thanks both of you for your thoughts!
Oh dear hope the decorations didn't get damaged when your tree fell over. We gave up on a real Christmas tree a few years ago they caused so much mess.

Claire, it must be the effect that 365 has on me as most people think I am rather serious!!!!!!!!!!!
