We visited a garden centre in Chatburn near Clitheroe today. I took my camera ready to take some lovely photos of Pendle Hill & surrounding areas.
It rained the whole time we were there so my camera never left its bag.
On our return the hens were waiting behind the gate for Harry to put them to bed. They can get inside through the poop hole but they like him to say goodnight.....I think he talks to them!!
Three good things:
1. We have eaten out so boiled eggs for tea!
2. Shoe horns.
3. Food banks.
@jantan@fueast He was always very soft with his animals ...they had so much attention you wouldn't believe....I came well down the list!
He loves these hens & they love him as much as a hen can feel love....wonder if they have feelings alert from hunger & the usual?
So lovely to think that they are intelligent enough to have comfort in the human element of being put to bed safely by Harry . No Faxy-loxy can get them if Harry has put them soundly to bed !!
Isn't it disappointing when rain stops your plan of taking shots !!
And SNAP we also had boiled eggs for tea as we had a Sunday roast at lunch time !
Our hens wait for me but only because I give them corn to get them in! I've noticed the nights drawing out this week though - bed time is getting later...
My dad kept chickens when I was very young and I just loved soft boiled eggs. I have a dream that one day we will have a garden big enough to keep chickens. Good for Harry. He makes them feel safe.
@judithg Yes it's keeping light for longer up here too Judith. I have a suspicion that our hens might get a tot bit too! Ours are laying really well but Cathys haven't laid an egg for ages!
Perhaps Harry throws them a handful of corn when they are to go to bed! Our cat gets treats when we go bed and she can't wait! This is a nice clear shot of your colourful hens!
Love this shot of your girls. I think that's so cute that they wait for Harry to put them to bed. I had no idea chickens were so sociable and attached to people. Marvelous photo and story, Pat. I'm a chicken fan now.
Aw so sweet, I think Harry is a bit of a softie really.
Isn't Pendle Hill where the witch trials were in the 1600s. David's grandad lived at Nelson for a few years.

I'm sure they give the best eggs in return!
Thank you both ......I have a vision of Harry sitting in the cabin with a book now!
The eggs are good...might photo them tomorrow!
