I had a quick trip to the garden centre this afternoon for some clemantines & bananas. I rushed because I wanted to be back to watch the rugby so a few quick shots of flowers is all I got today!
I was in such a rush I forgot to look at the name of these flowers, they looked quite pretty in front of the sheet of water you can see in the background.
Three good things:
1. A vanilla slice & coffee renoir for a treat. We never eat cream cakes much these days but I couldn't help myself!
2. I caught up with the last two episodes of Wolf Hall this morning.
3. I just happened to switch the radio onto radio 4 on my way home & caught the last litte bit of Gardeners Question Time coming from Whitechapel Village Hall. The VH is next to the school where our kids went & the place were we spend every New Years Eve. I had forgotten it was on....must listen on iPlayer as there will be people I know asking the questions.
@peggysirk Thanks Peggy......not quite spring yet, cold & wet although I can see some fine weather might come over from Ireland where the rugby is on at the moment....we usually get their weather soon afterwards!
A beautiful array of flowers against that waterfall ! -- I was going to suggest by the flowers and the shape of the leaves that at this time of the year ,they would be Hellebores , so I agree with Hazel .@quietpurplehaze .
Lovely Hellebores Pat, we also call them 'Winter Rose'.. I love them and have a few in the garden but they don't seem to like our sandy soil... or perhaps we just don't get cold enough
Drat Hazel beat me to hellebores - not often I know one! It's a lovely specimen - I might have ended up buying it. I saw the beheading on Gogglebox - very traumatic.
Oh yes I heard a bit of GQT today - on our way to Kimbolton Castle. Love your flowers, I didn't recognise them as hellebores but I think they're right. Unusual to be holding their heads so upright.
well, this is quire artistic Pat, but the big question is why was there such an urgency to buy clemantines & bananas on a Sunday afternoon and more to the point your garden centre sells fruits !!! ours sell flowers and plants
So nice to see springing up around the northern hemisphere. It's late coming here, but I am eager seeing scenes like this. I especially love the background that the waterfall provides.
@phil_howcroft well Phil we have to have fruit in the house...Harry has to have his fruit fix plus I needed black puddings for a B&B who booked in today. Our Barton Grange Garden Centre sells loads more than flowers & plants....you need to google it!
@busylady I didn't think they were hellebores either, Judith but we have some serious gardeners here so must bow to their knowledge! I hope you two @judithg are talking about dead heading flowers! I'm not even going to think about the alternative!
Beautiful flowers, lets hope spring is on the way in your part of the world.
I am just about to check out last night's episode of Broadchurch on iView on the computer because we had a huge storm and the power went off. Thank God for technology.
@maggiemae Ha ha maggienae, we are talking about the beheading of Anne Boylen. Wolf Hall the novel by some women who's name escapes me at 2.43am has just been televised so in the last scene she was rather gruesomely beheaded,,,much more interesting than beheading flowers!
I shall go back & check out these flowers tomorrow!
@onewing Yes indeed Babs......that iPlayer is such a great invention....no matter if you forget to set the recording machine! Our spring means your autumn of course but that is a lovely time of the year too.
@ceilidh Well I must say my grandmother was Irush & I love Ireland so I always root for them if it's not England playing....same with NZ ...next best thing to me!
Good luck to your rugby team!
