Slipping & sliding by happypat

Slipping & sliding

This reminds me of one of those machines in the amusement arcade where you have to try & dislodge the coins by feeding in more coins......they hang on for grim life just as these tiles are doing.

One of our former poor barns with the roof slipping into even worse repair. These barns have planning application to be turned into houses......wish the owner would get cracking & sell them.

This is the barn I used to have all my calves in....sad to see its got in this state!

Three good things:
1. A smiley face when the B&B due later arrives at 1.30pm & spends all afternoon in her bedroom so we have to keep the heating on full blast......it's a B&B not a hotel I feel like saying!!
2. A good grumble!
3. Our NY tickets have arrived!
That's a brilliant description of the roof but can see why you'd be sorry to see it in that state.

Ooh ! Pat , what a state of disrepair , I can imagine how this sight saddens you ! It would be nice to see a new barn conversion there !! But on the bright side it has provided you with a lovely sight to photograph !I know what you mean if you push one tile the lot will come tumbling down ! .
March 2nd, 2015
Oh my... That roof certainly has seen better days. Great capture of the textures and tones.
March 2nd, 2015
@newbank @beryl @anazad511 Thank you ...we have been watching this roof for months & one of these days they are going to give but it's amazing how long they have been hanging on exactly like this. We can see these tiles as they are just the other side of the wall from our back door!

I love this - colour, texture, story and lines. Fav.
March 2nd, 2015
So do you live on your old land?
March 2nd, 2015
Like you description ... apt! Nice textured picture but shame for it to be in such a poor state of repair.
March 2nd, 2015
@newbank well we kept the house & a field but sold the buildings & land Ruth. It grieves us to see how the guy who bought it has let things slip. We were so fussy...we tried to sell it as a whole by auction but it was just as money problems hit the UK in 2008 & no one could get the banks to lend money.

@candia Thank you for the fave Candia....very kind of you!
March 2nd, 2015
@helly31 Yes I would love it to look all done up but hopefully he will have to do something before the planning runs out!
March 2nd, 2015
I an sorry that it is your close view but it does make an interesting shot
March 2nd, 2015
Oh dear, so sad to see you poor barn in disrepair. I'll have to remember that about not turning up in the afternoon and staying there expecting the heating to be kept on! Don't think we've ever done that though!
March 2nd, 2015
So sad to somewhere with so many memories for you falling into this state. I do like the colours and textures though!
March 2nd, 2015
@busylady Oh dear no Judith....I don't normally mind but it's so cold today so have the heating on full blast & she hasn't gone out all afternoon.....lots of folk come early stay a while & then go out plus I have no trouble with anybody coming back all day it's just I wanted to go out to buy birthday cards but don't feel I can leave her on her own. She is a new B&B so she has been down asking for different things such as wifi code etc had tea in the sitting room etc.
March 2nd, 2015
@thistle Yes that's why I put it up.....that balancing act is amazing I thought Joyce!
March 2nd, 2015
@pinkpaintpot Thanks Linda.....not a very good view is it......it will be worse when it finally goes!
March 2nd, 2015
FAV... the textures and colours are AMAZING!
March 2nd, 2015
Great shot
March 2nd, 2015
Be a bit breezy for calves in there now... looks like a job for George Clarke... Restoration Man...
March 2nd, 2015
it does look like the shove penny machine. Great shot
March 2nd, 2015
Bep
I can imagine how this saddens you, but it's a great shot. Fav.
March 2nd, 2015
@julzmaioro It would....I quite fancy George coming round to fix it!
March 2nd, 2015
@kwind Thanks for the fave Kim.......
March 2nd, 2015
@graemestevens Thank you too Graeme.
March 2nd, 2015
I do not love that your former barn has reached this state of disrepair, Pat...but I do love those amazing materials and textures in this shot. That brick is gorgeous. Will there not be considerable damage to the inside of this structure being open to the elements like that? Seems like the owner would at the very least place a tarp over the roof until repair work is started. But what do I know. ☺
Maybe your B&B guest will surprise you and decide to spend the afternoon downstairs and socialize a bit. She must be a regular for you to know her habits.
Yea for NYC tix! Not long now! I'll be hoping for lovely spring-like weather in the big city for your visit!!!
March 2nd, 2015
@denisefuller It does doesn't it Denise......not sure how long it will hang on!
March 2nd, 2015
@gijsje Thank you too Bep for that fave!
March 2nd, 2015
@peggysirk Thank Peggy......luckily this side of the roof is facing away from the prevailing winds that come from the sea...it would have been long gone if it had been facing west. Otherwise the barn is in good repair....we did so much to,it to get planning for holiday let's so its just the roof.
I have never met the B&B lady before & she is still upstairs so obviously not even going out to get a meal. It is understood mostly that on the whole & without letting know otherwise that guests arrive after 4pm in a B&B. I am the last person to make a fuss but she never asked if it was ok to stay in & worst of all never commented on my beautifully newly decorated room...that to be honest is the whole nub of the matter!!
We will come wrapped up anyway but would be nice to have a bit of warm sun in NYC!
March 2nd, 2015
@happypat I thought you might... let me know when he is there...
March 2nd, 2015
@julzmaioro Funnily enough he did a series over here about unusual small spaces & one of the chaps he did a programme with was our one time next door neighbour!
March 2nd, 2015
I love the analogy about the slip and slide machines in arcades!
March 2nd, 2015
Jo
Oooo I really like this shot, there is something rather appealing about it, a great capture despite it's disrepair.
March 2nd, 2015
Oh dear - you wouldn't want to stand under there this weekend. But like @jo13 it is a very appealing shot. Exciting about NY!
March 2nd, 2015
@guycalledjack Thanks Jack......wonder when it will slide down? Hope you are keeping warm down there in Sheffield.
March 2nd, 2015
@jo13 The lichen stuff on the roof looks lovely in the sun Jo, it's beautiful in its own way. Thanks Jo.
March 2nd, 2015
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust . . .
March 2nd, 2015
@judithg Never thought about standing underneath....you're right it would be very risky....another beheading job!!
March 2nd, 2015
Oh dear, Pat! Not the best of days for you! So sad to see the state of your old barn. But, on the upside, there's the NY trip to look forward to!
March 2nd, 2015
@cejaanderson Very true Jane......things can soon get into disrepair without any maintenance.
March 2nd, 2015
@kwiksilver The wind is very cold Gillian.....it gets in every corner of the house so have actually been quite glad & a bit of a luxury to have the heating on all day! Usually we manage in the middle of the day because the kitchen is really warm with the Aga. Yes NYC here we come!
March 2nd, 2015
I remember these wonderful slates slipping and sliding away! I thought they would be valuable and could be used again but if they fall on the ground they will be broken and useless! That B&B is probably not very social or else she's on Facebook for all those hours!
March 2nd, 2015
@maggiemae Yes you would see them slipping maggiemae as you parked right in front of there. They haven't moved that much since you were here considering all the wind we have had! I thinks she just lying in bed there is no light on....come over from Germany for her sisters funeral so perhaps she is tired!
March 2nd, 2015
O dear, very sad and sorry state, could be a lovely house though
March 2nd, 2015
It makes a beautiful shot but it must be quite upsetting for you to see it in this state.
On a lighter side this reminds me of when I was little. We had a slate roof on one of our houses and after a terrific storm one night one of the slates came loose. Mum noticed a builder down the street repairing somebody else's roof and ran down the street shouting "Excuse me I have a slate loose too". Of course, coming from the north of England you will know what that means, ha ha.
The builder had a sense of humour though and said "Are you sure I am the right man for the job".
March 2nd, 2015
Nicely captured, Pat. Your comment exactly echoes what came into my mind when I saw the photo... and I've also been watching a game show on ITV based on the same machine.
March 2nd, 2015
action shot? very captivating, I can just look at this for hours.
March 2nd, 2015
@neatz @fullcircle Thank you candy & Anita.....I am so pleased you like this odd roof......it has a quite a fascination hasn't it?
March 2nd, 2015
@onewing I do indeed know what that means Babs! A common expression round these parts! Lovely story!
March 2nd, 2015
@wordpixman Thanks Arthur......I think we have all had a go at those arcade games.....could you ever dislodge the coins, I never could! I used to think they were glued together!
March 2nd, 2015
great capture
March 2nd, 2015
i see whot you mean about the amusement machines Pat. Love this , I am just waiting for those two tiles on the left hand side of the frame to fall
March 2nd, 2015
@phil_howcroft We've been wIting for months Phil!! Just amazing how they stay on!!
March 3rd, 2015
This is a very sad sight, but it makes for a wonderful picture. I love the colours and textures.
