Helping Grandad

Jack visited us today. He us on a reading week from uni so has come home for a few home comforts!
The wind had broken off the wooden stake holding up the Eucolyptus tree & the whole tree was bent over. Jack helped Grandad to pull it up again & they were going to lop the top off but decided not to in the end.
Since then we googled Eucolyptus trees & discovered they can grow to 17 meters so it's definitely having its top lopped off while we can still reach it!

Three good things:
1. Chatting to Lydia at 1.15am this morning, she had been on a night out & I was eating a banana!
2. Having a visit from Jack.
3. A voice from the past. A friend I had lost touch with over thirty years ago rang this afternoon. She had booked in to the Podiatry clinic Cathy works at & she was given my phone number. It was lovely to hear her voice.....a meeting up is next.
These trees still look young so you are in control at the moment. Hope Jack will give you a concert while he's there!

Lovely photo and wow that is a tall eucalyptus......our neighbours planted one a couple of years ago but nothing like that height!!!
Good for Jack and so nice to catch up with them.....even in the middle of the night!!!
I was messaging my sister at some crazy hour last night as she had just replied to a message I'd sent earlier! Good to feel you aren't the only one who's not asleep. And so nice about your friend!!

A lovely shot ! lovely to see Jack helping Granddad Those Eucalyptus can grow enormous We had one years ago and it grew at a tremendous rate when I became widowed I couldn't cope with pruning it regularly -- so it had the chop before it got completely out of hand --and really was not suitable for a town garden in spite of it being a fair size .A garden in the drive has an Eucalyptus that has gone completely out of hand and towers well about the houses . But a year or two ago one large branch snapped off ,but I think the remaining tree is still growing !!

I love eucalyptus as they remind me of walking the levadas on holiday in Madeira and yes, they can be huge!

@happypat We bought our tree because of the beautiful leaves and bark , and I loved the smell - In those days I was much into flower arranging and I thought it a great idea to have the beautiful foliage for this !! But it didn't work out !!
November 11th, 2015
@beryl We bought ours for exactly the same reason, except for the flower arranging bit that is......the leaves are so pretty.

it looks like you have plenty of room for a eucalyptus

@pinkpaintpot We planted this littke wood six years ago Linda & all the trees are doing very well. Lots of different varieties for colour & shape so am still hoping the Eucolyptus will survive & grow strong.
