A very historic day today 24th June 2016 the UK has voted to leave the EU.
Whether you are happy or bitterly disappointed it is an amazing result for us & the rest of the world.
Our prime minister resigned & the markets are in turmoil but I think we will be ok when everything gets on an even keel a few years down the line.
I think we are the first of other countries to reject the overloaded wasteful Brussels.
As you can gather I am extremely pleased!
Three good things:
1. Democracy.
2. Harry's birthday today!
3. Out for a birthday lunch with family.
Happy birthday Harry. Pleased you got the result you wanted but seems to of upset alot as well. Pm seems to of jumped ship pretty quick. Hope all goes well. . Always a place for you over here pat.
Nice street scene. We live in interesting times,I think we are going to have few years of uncertainty but will be better for it in the long run and I don't think we will be the last exit either!
Hey, ...a very happy birthday to Harry! There will be a celebration with family as you have said. You have hours till it will be dark so enjoy! I think this would be both a "hats off' party and a 'hats on"!
The comments reflect the sentiments of many, pro and con, which is very interesting. I sincerely wish only the best for the UK. Turmoil seems to thrive for many of us.
Well, you certainly attracted a lot of comments! And I am proud of our 365 community for the restraint and good manners we display whether we agree or disagree with a comment.
What the future holds is of course is unknown, but I do think it is interesting how many "experts" failed to predict the outcome correctly yet immediately began expressing their opinions as they in fact "know it all"
Lovely sunny pic. I'm afraid the word you're looking for is not 'disappointed', more like 'devastated' at having my European citizenship taken from me. Selfish I know, but in less egotistical terms, I believe this to be a seriously retrograde step in the efforts to build the kind of joined up world that can be the only guarantee of safety and freedom for all. Walls can never protect people forever. Also the referendum process was deeply flawed (I can write an essay on that but won't, but compare with the level of information available, preparation and planning, and thought given to what constitutes a majority in the Scottish referendum) and I knew that before the vote so nothing to do with sour grapes.
Having said that, I still love you and wish Harry a belated happy birthday!
@boxplayer Thank you Ayla, friends will never be put off by different opinions & I do like a good debate as you know! A very emotive subject & one which perhaps needn't have even been aired, sometimes it's best to leave well alone! Saying that I don't regret voting leave, the people in the north especially feel a world away from London & the rest of the UK in London. I did not vote on the immigration situation just the all consuming dictatorship of the palace of Brussels. I think the remain campaign was very badly run, too much scare mongering & no sensible calm talk of key worries. I never heard one mention of the word Gibralter for instance & of course the Scottish situation is very worrying. Lies on both sides I think! I genuinely think the race problem is hooligan related, thugs taking advantage of the unrest, they catch onto any weaknesses, I can't see us oldies who voted leave behaving like that!
Anyway we have a breathing space & I honestly believe that there is no chance that the UK will ever leave the EU completely. They will go the single market route as in Norway or even EFTA.
Who would have thought the country could change so much in the space of a few days? I have been glued to Sky news!
Interesting times ahead for sure & both political parties in array, it's all rather scary! History being made! Living in London you are in the thick of it, we feel it's a world away! Hope to meet up sometime in London, been rather hampered with my ankle but I'm getting there, love to you & Dave.
Lovely picture and Happy Birthday to Harry.
