The old corridors at the Blackpool Victoria Hospital that I used to pace up & down in my youth.
This corridor is just about the only bit of the hospital that looks the same, even the floor looks as it was over fifty years ago!
Blackpool Victoria is the hospital we chose to use when we are ill enough to need a hospital. Harry was there this morning for his eye test so nothing serious this time. We seemed to have spent a fair bit of time in this place this year!
The place to go for any heart problems you may have!
Three good things:
1. A bowl of Rice Crispies, a cup of tea & a couple of paracetamol in the early hours of the morning helps with that illusive thing called sleep!
2. My kindle fitted into my bag beautifully at the hospital & helped while away the waiting hour.
3. Every hen laid an egg today!
nice memory shot. Glad you don't need it for anything serious! Kindles are very handy to just carry aren't they? I have one to but I still prefer to have a book in my hand.
Hospitals change so quickly. I get lost in ours now and I worked there for many years. Glad it was nothing serious. Hope Harry was OK. Kindles are wnderful things. I still love real books but Kindles are so useful. I have a Kindle app on my phone so I can read the odd chapter if I have to wait anywhere.
Ah, rice krispies would be a change from cornflakes! Love the thought of hens laying eggs, takes me back to when my dad kept them - but I remember him getting upset when they pecked each others' feathers. No idea why they did that.
Those horrendous long corridors do not do much to one's moral - if you are not well the thought of facing a long corridor is more than one can stomach -- I sometimes can not face the long corridor in our quite modern hospital and on some occasions I have to be wheeled in a wheel chair !
@quietpurplehaze No I don't know either Hazel, but I think boredom if they are inside & if they have the slightest injury the others will go for it! Some hens are bossy too! I hadn't had rice Crispies for ages but they were good!
@beryl Long corridors are very long, this one must be half a mile at least! They have done away with the shop at the end we were at as they have made the entrance bigger with a massive desk there. I had to walk all the way to the very fancy front entrance which is at the back to get a newspaper.
Sounds like you still have a bit of pain to be taking paracetamol. What a nuisance to say the least! Probably takes 1/2 hour to get to this hospital? Ours is 5 mins away!
@maggiemae yes my thumb throbs at times like toothache but it's much better than it was, still can't fasten certain items of clothing though! It takes fifteen minutes on the back roads, the nearer we are to a hospital the better now I reckon!
Well....were you a nurse at this hospital? I'd never given that any thought until I read your story today! It's quite strange revisiting familiar spaces after some years have passed. Nice though!
@nickspicsnz Yes it is narrow & this is the old part of the hospital incorporated in the new. The rest I very modern & bright but this is the bit I remember.
