The craft of dry stone walling is very much alive in the north of England but I have never seen a better example than this one which was being built at the Westmorland Show.
Built straight onto the land with no foundations there are many miles of these wonderful walls separating fields in Lancashire, Yorkshire, Cumbria, Westmorland & Northumberland.
Loved this impressive wave effect, such talent! This was all built in the day by men of great skill.
I would liked to have got a photo of more of this wall but had to get close to show the work without anyone standing in front of it!
We are out tonight so no need to comment, I will check your photos out tomorrow.
Three good things:
1. A lovely Skype with Max & Finn this morning.
2. A visit to the fabric shop helping my friend choose curtain material. I bought some red check PVC table cover ready for my change to winter colours as soon as it gets cooler.
3. A better night with the wool pillow so the jury's still out. Harry loved his though!
Love the stone walls and there is a lot up north near where my sister lives but most are crumbling.. such a shame .. we need some of your craftsmen over here.
Bit sad having to get ready for winter.
We have more and more of these round us too. Nothing quite like natural stone and a real art building them. How nice to have a good Skype time withe little guys! David messaged to say they have intErnest now so we hope to chat on Monday. 😀
Very impressive wall. David being an engineer decided to build a small dry stone wall around a flower bed in our garden in Cyprus it looked really good.
I was telling my son about this picture and how clever the 'curve' was. Turns out his boss from Muncaster was involved. Coincidentally his boss is the man in green on the right of your photo!
Bit sad having to get ready for winter.
