Burns night

Piping in the Haggis.

Interesting evening at our local Focus magazine Burns night.

Harry is a distributor of Focus so was entitled to a free ticket. He delivers 118 of the free magazine through letterboxes. It's held every two years & we normally both go but this year he jibbed, my friends husband also decided he didn't want to go. I must say it was a long night with many speeches, songs & pipe playing.
The main speaker did go on a long time at least 20 minutes, unfortunately almost the whole time in Scottish dialect which no one understood a word!

The neeps & haggis was excellent, lovely trifle but main turkey dish average!

Three good things:
1. Good company which saved the evening!
2. I didn't have to drive.
3. Interesting statistics from the local vicars speech. He was comparing the cost of printers ink with other liquid commodities.
Large bottle of champagne £70
1 bag of blood, Equivalent amount £140
Equivalent amount of printers ink £400.
A super capture. Love the sound of the pipes, always reminds me of going to listen to the pipe band on Sundays', with my Dad, when I lived in the North East

Always an interesting evening to the sound of the bagpipes -- but the long speeches can be a bore especially when the dialect is hard to understand . Love your vicar -- he must have had time on his hands to investigate into the cost of various liquids !! I wonder what was the moral of his story !! ha ha !

@beryl he was praising the ability to get an actual printed paper in his hand, he said everything is on line these days & he spends loads of time printing off & circulating to all the churches in his patch costing him big money!

@julzmaioro Yes it was a very long night Julz....I wouldn't pay to go I don't think! This year it was at a different place as our usual local restaurant had the builders in, it was actually ready but they had already booked the new one. Back to normal next time but will still be as long winded!!

Long speeches can be a bit of a bore can't they, but at least you had good company and nice food.

Interesting comparison between champagne and printer’s ink. Not sure the comparison was apples to apples though. Smile.

just as well you had good company Pat. Must have been hard to sit through the boring speeches. Trifle sounds good but dont think I could come at neeps and haggis.

Love bagpipes but I hate sitting still while someone drones on and on. Glad you had good company

What a pity speeches were so long and difficult to follow.....we haven't been to a Burns supper for years but the performers were brilliant and read the audience well.
Oh well ....I have heard the printer ink comparison before....it's horrific!

@cruiser The neeps & haggis was the best bit Chris! I had never had it before I went to a Burns night for the first time but haggis is delicious!

Sounds as though it was a mixed evening Pat. Glad you had some good company

Well you remembered all those costs! Probably went over and over in your head while the main man pontificated in Gaelic! The oldies just love this evening!
