I had a lovely three hours in Lancaster today. I was due to pick up William & Erin up off the train so decided to set off early & have a good potter round this lovely city.
It's a place I have sort of stopped going to since my mum died & two of our grandchildren left school but it is a very interesting place.
I climbed up to the castle which overlooks the town, lots of quaint named streets.
I had a coffee & toasted teacake in Music Room Passage.
Some clever person would have photo shopped that row of rubbish & the for sale sign!
Three good things:
1. A great time was had in London by the holiday makers.
2. A Eurovision party in the village I think, there were some strange looking characters walking about tonight.
3. Last but not least our lovely granddaughter Lydia is 22 today. No celebration again this year as she is in the middle of her final exams & has one on Monday, she opted to revise. Wise girl!
I remember Lancaster from when Clare was at uni there - a lovely place. Pat, I had not noticed the items you said should be photoshopped until you mentioned them. Nice shot!
@quietpurplehaze Lancaster uni has grown so much lately, it wasn't that big or good years ago but now one of the top uni's. The square was buzzing today with entertainment & students sitting in the sun.
A beautiful scene - big solid walls and that pop of red no need to clean up this the added "bits " makes it lived it - Glad you had a lovely day ! and a Happy Birthday to Lydia
When I spotted this photo on he thumbnails I said to David 'This looks like Lancaster' and sure enough it is. I used to love visiting Lancaster where David's Mum and Dad lived for a few years after they left North Wales. I have wandered round the area close to the castle many times.
Lovely photo of a lovely city.....and so great to have grandchildren coming and going and being independent adults - such fun and making positive choices is great!
This is a lovely pov for this image. The red door really pops and adds to the overall view. A great idea to go early and have a nice relaxed wander around.
PS how's the packing going Pat. I've just started and having trouble as usual in deciding what to take. I get so bored with wearing the same things for 6 weeks and we always have so may other bits and pieces to take to the family
I don't mind the sign and rubbish, it makes it look authentic! The red of the door does draw the eye. I have never been to Lancaster, looks a nice place.
@cruiser Well I haven't started yet Chris, a whole week yet before I go but I have put out some things I might forget such as kindle charger, slippers etc it will be winter more or less this time so a complete different set of clothes, I aim to pack light thus year but of course ny nature of time of year clothes will bi heavier. I think a couple of pairs of jeans, a better smarter pair & comfy ones to travel in will do me. Different layers on top as it can be very warm in the daytime in NZ if there are no clouds. Ant wants his steel capped boots taking over so will pack them seperately in a box so I can declare them, they are fussy about boots! No unwanted soil etc in NZ. I know I wil end up with far more than I need so really need to be ruthless this year! I'm not taking much for family this year except the boots, up to now that us! Each boot weighs about 2kg !!
@happypat That was so interesting to read about the restrictions on boots and soil. I know many countries are very particular about fruits and vegetables, but never really thought beyond that. Lovely scens and I never noticed the rubbish!
@allie912 thank you Alison. We do learn stuff on this site! NZ are the only country I know to scan your luggage again as you leave the airport. Agriculture us so important to the economy & culture of the country that they are extra particular, rightly so. If they aren't satisfied with the boots they will steam clean them & give you them back!
