Samphire by happypat

Samphire

I love a bit of samphire with fish.

In season at the moment so we had fish especially tonight, Harry didn't rate the samphire but I ignored his grumbling!

He ate it all!

Three good things:
1. A result with the marks on my car bonnet. I took it to my garage this morning to see what they thought. Bird poo he thought but I am sceptical about that as I've had bird poo on before when swallows are nesting in the rafters & never has it made a mess like that.
Anyway an estimate of just over a £1000 so a big shock! Have decided to go through our insurance & do it properly.
Thank goodness for car insurance & protected no claims bonus.
2. Full house with B&B tonight, all people we know & who have been many times before.
3. Lydia home safe & sound from her holiday.
Goes really well with a white fish. Lovely green

Something rated high to serve with sea food by the chefs !! Something I have never tasted , but love to - I believe its quite salty ?

@beryl Yes it is Beryl. I tried it last year, it's quite hard to get hold of & I think it's a fairly short season. I just put it in a small pan with butter & gently cook it for a few minutes.

@mave @carolmw bought mine at Tesco after I'd been to the garage, had to hunt for it.

A new vegetable to me too. It does look good. I wonder if you parked under some kind of chemical leak?

@louannwarren not sure Lou Ann, funny thing was I never noticed it until I washed the car. If I had seen lots of big bird droppings I would have washed it if much sooner....it's a mystery, whatever it is the hot sun made it far worse & changed the dynamics of the substance.

I had to google this word! I note that it is sometimes called sea asparagus and that tells me what it is like! Must be very good for you and together with the fish, you will be fighting fit!

@sdutoit @cdonohoue @brennieb @maggiemae @Dawn @loweygrace @bkbinthecity @onewing @jackie8

This is the uncooked version of course, it's quite salty & is best with fish. I only heard of it by watching cooking programmes such as Masterchef.
It's worth a try but you have to route it out in the shops.
@gijsje glad you like it too Bep, it's easy to prepare & makes a change from the inevitable peas with fish!
