We had half an hour to spare this lunchtime so popped into see the Huka Falls.
We took the kids out of school for the afternoon & we were a bit early....their school is just up the road from here.
Over 750, 000 people visit this attraction every year, the largest visited attraction in New Zealand. It’s free & on the main route south.
The Waikato river is the longest river in NZ & the most highly developed river system for electricity, it supplies nine hydro electric station plus one thermal & two geothermal stations.
It can produce enough electricity to power around 500,000 homes a year.
Ant said the water level was quite low today but it’s the colour of the water that is so amazing to me.
This was taken on the bridge, the other side is the same.

You certainly have done your home work .. It is an amazing river and to think this is the same river that is on our back door .. looks very different from our end... Have fun with those boys..
Rough and turbulent waters! I was just looking at an old photo yesterday of when we stayed at Huka Lodge - before it became an elite luxury stay! Years ago. This part of the river never changes!
