I had to take this photo comparing our cold & dark days before the festive season.
Loved the hot weather with Christmas decorations on the lamp posts.
Number one son on right & grandson William & his fiancé Erin on the left.
Out for our last meal before I flew home.
William is a volunteer fireman & they had been practising hose routine in the park. He left as soon as they had finished to join us & as the fire engine drove past on its way to the fire depot all his mates rang the bell & shouted & waved....
Three good things:
1. The Aga man is here at the moment trying to fix this misbehaving cooker....fingers crossed!
2. A lovely frosty morning....no rain!
3. I wrote most of the Christmas cards this afternoon. No elaboration of writing this year...just love from Harry & Pat! Soon done, still have to write addresses though.
Lovely warm sunshine....I can't imagine southern hemisphere Christmas times but perhaps when we retire we could go to spend Christmas with Laura and Iain.
Before we moved to the UK we couldn't imagine a cold Xmas. Now that we're back in NZ we sometimes miss a cold Xmas, or certain elements of it, but for us Boxing Day is spent out on the deck with friends and booze, getting slowly and irretrievably trousered in the warm sunshine ;)
A lovely sunny pre-Christmas shot which I can not quite imagine especially our Turkey Dinner -!! I also rejoiced with the cold and frosty morning with NO rain this morning , although I had forgotten the hassle of defrosting the car in the morning ! Also been having a go at my Christmas cards this afternoon , with candle light aglow - so cosy ! Hope the Aga will be sorted in time to cook the turkey !
This will be my 21st sunny Christmas and I’m still not used to it. Just doesn’t seem the same. At least this year we have friends coming from the UK to help celebrate
@graemestevens Ha ha Graeme, you have better things to do at Christmas I know.....beach calls & why not! We would be the same but you can’t see any Christmas lights.....too light! 😄
@julzmaioro I think it’s what most people miss about the UK when they emigrate Julz..... it’s certainly different but Christmas is what you make it! Aga needs an expensive part!! Hopefully that will fix it!
@beryl Sounds cosy in your house Beryl...candlelight is part of a winter Christmas but there again we have nothing better to do in midwinter! It’s a welcome break from the gloom & doom! Hopeful for the Aga....it’s had so much money spent on servicing it but turns out it’s fuel starved & needs a new part costing £200 plus labour! Never mind it will be so good to have it back to normal.
@yorkshirekiwi I bet Carole..... it’s the weather that makes Christmas tick specially if it snows! We are all crackers to want cold weather but it’s what we are used to! Enjoy this year’s festivities!
@gijsje Very strange Bep.....it’s the lack of pretty lights I miss, they are there but you can’t see them much...I’m sure the same fun is there but just in a different way.
This is a lovely scene - colourful and obviously so warm! We had a fire yesterday! You never know what weather you are going to get. Both your grandchildren have partners now - that's good to hear! My stepdaughter Kerry who you have met, is complaining about the flashing lights going on and off 24/7 on the house opposite her!
@maggiemae I would be complaining too maggie...I don’t like flashing lights either but even worse this early...it’s still No ember fir goodness sake! Yes both getting married next March, a fortnight between them!
It took me a while to get used to the warm weather at Christmas when I moved to Florida in the 70's. We are having a mix of weather in Maine right now (I moved back before the 70's were over).
