Coffee stop

This is the other side of the road from yesterday’s photo.
Church cleaning this morning & then to the coffee shop for a good chat & catch up with news.
Afterward me & my cinema friend Dot went on the the Farmers Arms for our lunch. She has been in Australia with family so we had lots of updating today....the lucky girl got upgraded for the whole of the flight from Melbourne to Manchester!

Three good things:
1. Really frosty this morning so very Christmassy!
2. A crocodile of nursery children in the garden centre, all holding hands & behaving beautifully.
3. I found the pop up turkey timers at the local garden centre!
Odd place to find culinary timers - they are not thermostats? Nice seeing these old buildings well used. You have so many friends it must be nice to have the time to lunch or have coffee with!

@maggiemae Ah it’s not any old garden centre Maggie....google Barton Grange GC when you have a minute...there is a cook shop, cinema, curling rink & loads more! Yes so lucky to have our friends....we must treasure them. I think farmers wives do make a life outside farming...we have to do as the work of milking 365 days a year does not give farmers much time off on a day to day routine so we have to find our own lifestyles that fit in. You would go mad otherwise!

@beryl I bought one last year as I was cooking a large turkey crown & as I had never cooked a crown before I thought I would go & buy a meat thermometer. Usually just guess when its meat is ready but was cooking for a lot of us so wanted to be sure. The lady in the shop told me about the turkey timer so I bought one. Very cheap, I paid £3.50 today. It’s a little thing you put in the thickest part of the turkey breast & when the turkey is cooked the red plug pops up! It was spot on last year...beautifully cooked moist turkey! I will photo it & put it on extras. A very experienced cook like you will not need it, I have cooked many a turkey in my time but felt the responsibility last year feeding so many!

@happypat Well worth to have with a BIG turkey - my little turkey would not merit it . Funny I had not noticed this though because I am drawn to any Kitchen gadgets ( but do control my buying ! ha !) but then I haven't been out to many shops leading up to Christmas !!

I am also cooking a turkey crown for the first time this year, so perhaps I need to find a turkey timer too! Lucky girl getting an upgrade!
