A collecting day today in Garstang.
I called in to Timpsons to pick up Harry’s leather belt I had left for repair,
Off to the stationers to collect some new address labels I had ordered. I needed to pick them up as our Christmas cards have to go off early with the change of address on.
Of course the main errand was to take my library books back & pick some more. None of the staff seemed to know if the library would be closing during lockdown but I am all prepared, six library books in the bag.
All these shops will be closing tomorrow night for at least a month!
Very stormy skies over a beautifully Remembrance Day decorated Garstang.
Three good things:
1. The efforts of one of the publicans & his wife today struggling with a massive Remembrance Day banner on the front of their pub....even though they have to close for a month still willing to do their but for the community!
2. Our post is delivered at a much earlier time...early afternoon instead of very late afternoon eg after 5pm! Our postman chats to everyone & does all sorts of jobs to help on his way round!
3. So many lovely comments on my ‘ Taken from the Front Door’ photo yesterday.
Such lovely comments both here & on FB where I also posted it....I think you all think we have made the right decision! Thank you.
.
I love the dark skies in this scene, it really makes the steet come to life. Well done on getting organised Pat. I still have some last minute things to collect tomorrow - my boots from the menders and a birthday present before the end of November!
@obsidian I have the BorrowBox app on my iPad Al. Have used it in the past but hopefully will last with six books! The danger fir me is the Kindle...I like the chance to read the latest publications but it can turn out expensive so will try & stick to the library.
This is a very narrow street for cars - perhaps only single lane! I like street photos like this too. It gives the impression of community friendships and meetings - which is not going to happen for a while!
@happypat That's the app that it told me to use. I have over 12,000 books for my kindle from a CD I got years ago! I will never get through them all! lol
Lovely photo and lovely story. What a great postman in your locality ..worth his weight in gold. And also your local publican with his banner.
The bleakest of Novembers this year.
@sdutoit There are loads of Timpson repair shops Babs. A big chain of them all over. They repair shoes, anything leather, passport photos etc. The owner does a lot for charity taking on ex prisoners etc. Ours is run in a sort of franchise the only one that is because I think he has worked for so long for Timpsons.
There was definitely a Timpsons selling shoes in the past...whether it’s the same firm I don’t know.
Lovely scene and shot. We have been crying out for lockdown for quite some time but the govt. is adamant at keeping business going. At least bars and restaurants have to close up early (don't know exactly what is the time limit).
Have you checked out the online library options? They have some books as ebooks which you can reserve and download.
Our libraries, theaters, cinemas etc. will be closed for at least two weeks.

I seem to remember a Timpson's shoe shop in Manchester in the '60s if it is the same store, it seems to have moved on from shoes now.
