A little bit of history about the church I mentioned yesterday.
The present church dates from the 12th century but a wooden church occupied the site in AD 737.
This church construction was started in 1132 not only as a place of worship but a place of safety for the villagers in dangerous times.
Near the main gate is a very distinctive tomb which is the final resting place of Edward Dodsworth, huntsman to King James who died in 1630.
Sadly I seemed to have missed taking a photo of that tomb.
All round the perimeter stone wall of the churchyard front & side are the propped up ancient headstones ....I presume moved from the green space you can see here in front.
I wish I had read the words on them now!
Three good things:
1. We have been to check out kitchen work surfaces. Have to go back tomorrow with a kitchen door to check the colour.
2. The electrician is at the site today...wires everywhere. A large delivery of insulation & underfloor heating booked for Wednesday.
3. A favourite tv programme has a new series starting tonight! Your Home Made Perfect!
Beautiful Church.. An old building in NZ is 200 odd years old so this history amazes me..
Things are progressing well for you..
We have just got the Your garden made perfect series.. enjoying that..
Such a wonderful old Church . Things are hotting up then Pat ,with the underfloor heating being installed on Weds ! and the chosing of the Kitchen well in hand .
How absolutely ancient and beautiful, with a long and rich history. Wonderful shot of this glorious old church.
Perfect timing for you to start tuning into "Your Home Made Perfect"...although I imagine you already have a good idea of what you consider perfect. And I can't wait to see it move in ready!
Great shot of this beautiful church. I'm glad the work is all continuing. You'll love your underfloor heating. We hesitated about that but I'm so glad we put it in. We love it!
@jamibann We dithered too but I didn’t want radiators on the walls so it was that reason alone that decided us....too late when it’s built so we’re very glad that it’s going in after all the good reports!
@maggiemae Ha ha I hope we will be in well before the cold weather maggie. We have longer cold winters than you so I’m sure it will be very welcome! Warm feet are always good whatever time of the year!!
Beautiful shot. A delightful scene with beautiful colours and the church. The Walkway to the door makes a gorgeous leading line. An amazing history to accompany your image. Fav.
