Still Alive & Kicking

Hi folks, just checking in after a short stay in hospital.

Had a dizzy spell while in Liverpool with Cathy, so had to come home. The doctor sent me into A&E, where I had an MRI scan and they found a tiny stroke that they think I had in the past which may be causing the dizziness.

This was the view from my bed for the three nights I spent in hospital. The man in the white coat was a jolly doctor and great fun. He was always chatting to the patients telling them how bright they looked and at one point gathered a crowd around my bed to guess my age! It was good entertainment!

I’m glad to be home now though and will be taking it easy until this dizzy spell passes.

Will return to 365, if not as often, in the future.

Thank you for all your thoughts, love and comments xx
Take good care.

I was starting to wonder, as hadn’t seen any posts for quite a few days. Glad you are out of hospital. Take care x

Oh my goodness. I’m glad you are home and glad they found out what is causing your dizziness. Thank you for letting us know! 🥰 Well I have to ask, what was your age according to the hospital crowd? 🤗

What a busy scene, with all the hospital paraphernalia around you. So pleased you are well enough to be home and I am sure Harry is so glad to have you home again! Take it easy till fully recovered! xx

So pleased you are back home and no one said you were older than what you are.. Sounds like one of those 10 years younger programs.
Take care and and come back to 365 as you are ready.💕

Oh, Pat! So sorry to hear about your dizziness and subsequent hospital stay! Will certainly be praying for you and for your husband to take good care of you once home!

Nice to see a post from you again. I was wondering what was going on as it is out of character for you not to post. Take care and hopefully the dizziness passes quickly and you can get out walking Connie again soon. Harry will be pleased to have you home again.

How lovely to see you again, I have been wondering where you were. Take it easy but don't keep your head still, the brain/eye coordination heals more quickly that way.
Have a look at vestibular exercises if you are up to it x

That’s no good but pleased you are ok take care Pat

Good to see you back again. I was beginning to get a bit worried about you. Good to hear they found the cause of your dizziness.
I have had two mini strokes a few years ago and David had a stroke last year. Good that we both feel fine at the moment.
Wishing you a speedy recovery. Take it easy. xx

@onewing Thank you Babs. Are you taking a statin & if so are you coping with them. I’m nervous if starting taking mine as once you’re on them you’re on them for life I’ve heard!
December 3rd, 2022
@countrylassie interesting Lesley, I thought I was doing the best not moving my head much. Will do as you suggest tomorrow. Thank you.
December 3rd, 2022
@happypat No I don't take statins. I had a bad reaction to statins a few years ago and so now my doctor has put me on Ezetimibe which is a non statin and I am okay with that. I also take low dose aspirin too.

David is on blood thinners - Apixaban, because he has had two DVTs, pulmonary embolism and a stroke. He is also on statins too. (Atozet I think) which is Ezetimibe and a statin. (Good job he is not a horse isn't it, ha ha) If you have a bad reaction to statins ask about ezetimibe, they may work for you.

Have a look at Sherwood Forest hospitals website, they have some exercises plus lots more on the tinternet, take it easy though x

Hi Pat, good to see you here today. Of course I missed you and was wondering...
Very good that Cathy was with you and getting things checked out so promptly.
Love and hugs 💛🥰🙏

@onewing Not taken any statin yet Babs I’m nervous if then, a bad press at the start! Want to
Make sure I need them first.
The doctor was so lovely but it might have been better if he had come up from the end of the bed ‘ explained properly what was what!
I left suddenly as they needed my bed so I’m in the dark a bit! Happy to take everything I need but want to make sure they are right & what fir!
He said my cholesterol was up a bit no no number…… never had a problem with that before! I shall be on the phone in the morning…. I just need a blood test & a chat!
I feel brighter this morning!
We have a hospital regime here! Harry is a very early riser as you would expect & the cup of tea is at bedside by 7.45 am. Longer in bed at the hospital! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@onewing Yes I have your email thanks Babs.

Oh sorry to hear you've been unwell, sounds like things are improving - definitely hope that dizziness passes and you're able to work out the best medicine options - feel better soon x
December 5th, 2022
Sorry to hear you've been unwell, take care and I hope you're soon okay

Hi Pat. Hope you’re doing ok. I’m just catching up on 365 and noticed you’d been MIA. Probably a bit late now, but thought I’d let you know I’ve been taking quite high dose statins daily since Sep 2019 without any side effects that I know of (along with a few other blood/heart-related meds). I know some people don’t get on very well with statins but I’ve been fine 😁
December 6th, 2022
@nickspicsnz Hi. I know, so kind of you to take the trouble to write of your experience of statins. It’s very reassuring & I have been amazed how many people I know are taking them without any side effects or bother. I actually took my first one last night, slept reasonably well & no sides effects. You always worry if you’re that one odd person that has a bad reaction. I can’t believe I’m such a wimp about taking them.
You look fine on them too so if you can do it so can I ! I’m feeling better but not right yet…scared about the dizzy & sick feeling coming back & still can’t believe I e actually had a stroke. It does make you realise you’re not invincible! The hospital hasn’t sent my doctor my discharge letter yet so have to wait until that arrives before I can have an appointment.
Thank you so much & to everyone else sending me good wishes, I hope to be back now & again soon. Xxx

Pat ,I was worried as you are a stalwart ( compliment btw) of 365. We started at the same time , so you've always been a "Bessie mate " on here . Take care , stay safe and return in your own time . You don't need to post everyday , just post when you have content , your mates will still be here supporting you . Hope Harry is ok too , it can be stressful for our loved ones when we are poorly x
December 6th, 2022
@phil_howcroft Thank you Phil. Lovely words & you’re right it is stressful for our family & the ones that only know you as being fit & able. You will recently have experienced the same upset in your house. It’s hard for the sick one to hold back & let others do things. Harry is fine having to do things he hasn’t done before. I hope to get back to normal soon even if perhaps a bit less full on.

@happypat I can understand how shocked you were to be told you'd had a stroke. Sometimes it can affect us mentally as much as, or more than, physically. If you haven't really taken many pills or potions in your lifetime, having to start taking them regularly can be a bit daunting and adds to the feeling of not being invincible. It doesn't help that statins have side-effects for some people. I hope you get on OK with them but, as others have said, there are alternatives if they don't work out for you. Take good care of yourself. We miss you here and look forward to hearing from you occasionally when you pop by to see us. xxx
December 6th, 2022
@nickspicsnz Thank you Nick…you have said it all in a nutshell! In the mind…I was quite smug about my good health looking back….come crashing down completely! It’s all in my mind really & the stroke apparently was a while ago so no reason not to get back to how I was! Loads more medication isa draw back bit if it keeps me alive so be it! Bless you! X
December 6th, 2022
I have been away from 365 for a while too Pat, so really sorry to hear you haven't been well. Wishing you a good recovery. All the best.
December 7th, 2022
Oh, Pat, I just came onto your page to send a message to see if you were ok a I hadn't seen your posts of late, and I came across this! So sorry to hear about your stay in hospital. I do hope you're ok. You just never know what's around the corner, do you, but it does sound as if you've nipped this in the bud. But do take it easy for a bit, let your body rest - it sounds as if it needs that. Sending big Scottish hugs!
December 7th, 2022
This is just what I did when I was in hospital last year, take a picture now and again to remind myself of what happened. I refer to it every now and again. Please do take it easy, and look after yourself. Would be lovely to see you back to full fitness again soon.
December 8th, 2022
@happypat Hope you are now feeling much better and on the mend. Take it easy until you are completely well and don't worry about 365 for now.
I tried emailing you on the address I have but I guess you have changed it since you moved because it bounced back.

I phoned my sister a few days ago and she said it was -3 in Worsley where she lives. If you do go out, take it easy and remember to rug up. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Just catching up with this Pat. I haven’t been on 365 as much since I lost Finlay and only really starting to get involved again. I am so sorry to read about all your problems but I am pleased you are now out of hospital! So scary for you! I hope you are well on the road to recovery now! Take care - big hug xx
