We got back to Tokyo last night and were honoured and delighted to be invited to go to our guide Miho's house for dinner. We took the subway out to Honancho and she met us at the station. We walked to her lovely house in the west of Tokyo. We had a really pleasant evening eating sashimi and hotpot and drinking beer and sake. We met her twins, Soshi and Aio as well as her dog, Geru, a former guide-dog for the blind. Husband was away on business. I took my wee camera with the sole intention of getting a photo ... and guess what, I forgot! So, here's one of hubby in the subway on the way home, with a box of sushi - a gift from Miho!
And, by the way, if anyone ever needs a guide in Tokyo, I can thoroughly recommend Miho!
Where did you find an uncrowded train?! And anyone who invites you to their home for a meal is gifting you a very special invitation indeed! Lucky you that she could speak English with you. We had had a hs exchange student whose grandmother invited us and all the family to a big dinner...sat on floor cushions and "conversed" as best we could with about 4 words in Japanese! Still, we left feeling we'd had a wonderful time and understood each other in many ways but verbal!
@Weezilou Good question - it was mobbed when we went out during rush-hour. But by 10.30pm, it was almost empty going back to our hotel. Like you, we have about 4 words in Japanese and we were very grateful for our host’s ability to speak English!
