On my way home from dad's yesterday, of course I stopped off to see what was going on at the nest. I got lucky to see both parents. As we approached our 'personal' viewpoint, one flew off leaving the other sitting on the nest. Whilst we were there, he/she flew back into the nest, stayed a while and then the other flew off for a bit. It was like the changing of the guard. I caught this moment when both were on the nest - they genuinely looked to be saying sweet nothings to each other. It's such a privilege to be able to watch the action at this nest. No signs of any young birds yet, but they can't be long in coming, I'd have thought.
Dad was in good form. It was a beautiful day and we had a lovely picnic sitting in the sun at the back of his house which is on the riverside - he lives in a renovated meal mill.
@serendypyty No, the nest is at the top of a very tall larch tree on the edge of the river, and fairly close to the main road. I found a spot on the side of the hill on the other side of the road, in between pine trees, where I can get level with the nest (almost) but not be too far away for my zoom lens to cope. It's tricky if it's windy as the tree branches move in front of my lens sometimes. I'd just love to be a couple of metres higher, and a few metres less far away! But I can be contented with my spot. I don't think there is a better one.
@casablanca It's a delight to see him hale and hearty and he was so pleased to see us that he'd put on a fresh shirt and trousers - not always something he does, especially since my mum is no longer there to nag him!!! ;-)
At first I thought that was a very large chick & got all excited...they’ve hatched!! You must feel relief when you see all is well & they are still there...I wouldn’t think it will be long now before there is a baby or two hopefully! This is a fabulous natural capture. Fave.
Glad you found your dad well & happy but nothing like seeing family to brighten us all up.
They look to be deep in conversation -- about the home decor? The way she's or he's handling the egg-care? About what each saw on their flights? Great storytelling scene!
Even in nature parenting is better when the communication is good! So glad to hear you're dad is doing well- his house sounds amazing! Being out in the sun is a great way to build up the immune system and that helps fight off all kinds of illness- so getting out for a picnic is great!
