I'd love to know more about my squirrel friends. Where else do they go for food? Where do they live? Why do they go absent without leave, never to be seen for days on end, despite a plentiful supply of peanuts? This little fellow returned on Saturday morning, despite the thrashing rain, helped himself to a few peanuts, and I haven't seen him since. I know he'll be back when he's ready though.
@maggiemae I do - I can see the feeder from my 'spot' at our breakfast bar in the kitchen. I'm always keeping an eye out for them, and the camera at the ready! :-)
Aw he is so sweet. I guess your squirrels are a lot like our possums. We have a few possums that turn up each night as we put food out for them. We tend to feed them more in winter as there isn't much available food supplies for them to forage on in the wild, but as summer is now approaching I find that they don't come as often as they have a varied diet in the wild now with plenty of fruit on the trees.
It is lovely that you supply nuts for them though as you head towards winter.
I adore your squirrel photos! Are they a thriving or declining population in your area of Scotland? It is so delightful to see them in their native habitat.
What joy to see this happy chappie! I haven’t seen a Red Squirrel since I was a student in Swansea...more than 50 years ago! Neither squirrels, nor badgers in the Isle of Man, yet there are cats without tails...
Aw he’s all fluffy & he looks quite young, his fur looks like baby hair. We had loads of grey squirrels & they all lived in the big trees round the garden. I used to think squirrels never came out in the winter & stored food to eat but we used to see them all winter long.
Awww- so cute! My little gray squirrel does the same. It's just proof that nature really can take care of itself and doesn't need our help but who wants to admit that?! Nice shot!
Fabulous photo. We've had one around our garden for a few days recently but darts across the patio very quickly. Lovely to know he/she is close by......hope he stays.
