Ripe Hill by jamibann

Ripe Hill

Strange name for a hill. This small hill on the Balmoral Estate is entirely surrounded by a drystone dyke. We have no idea why, other than perhaps to separate the trees from the moorland. But again, why?
A beautiful rural composition... including the mysterious drystone dyke!

very odd. In B&W it could be an ancient photo.

You are lucky to have such a willing model with you on your outings Issi. He really give perspective to the capture. :)

Great sense of the trees reaching to the sky. Surrounded by the wall, a mystery to be discovered.

The dry stone wall looks very old...perhaps it was there long before those trees...they look tall & a good age but walls can be there for a very long time.

Different landowners perhaps and the wall forms the boundary?

The Secret Wall is a great shelter for many invertebrates and a wonderful topic for photographers.

Wonderful capture of the wall, trees and man for perspective

Someone was bored and didn't want to sit at home with the wife... (I'm talking about whoever built the dyke, not your husband!)

Great perspective with the man in the photo!

Those are some tall narrow trees . Wonderful to see how tall with the human in the photo.

To quote John Lennon / Yoko Ono "Strange days indeed most peculiar, Mama"

Good in monochrome

Although they're tall, they look like fairly young trees- maybe there used to be a structure inside the dyke at some point which is now underground. Time to find some locals who might have the answers for your questions. I like the addition of your husband for scale.
