Adult salmon migrate upstream through rivers to their spawning grounds, swimming against the flow to get there. Hubby, a keen fisherman, is always on the look out for spawning salmon at this time of year. He dragged me down to the bridge today to see the salmon resting under or close to the bridge. I took the camera, although it's very difficult to capture anything what with the moving water, the moving fish, the dark background and the reflections, but I think you can clearly see this salmon.
Beautiful shot of the salmon. Our Pacific Salmon do the same, but the run is finished and fishing has been stopped for the season. We love salmon and will miss it for some months now.
Good to see this salmon doing what comes naturally….I think they die afterwards too poor things don’t they? We like salmon too but these wild ones are very special…..quite a thrill to see this natural happening.
@busylady He'd love to, but not on the Dee, and not at this time of year, they're too skinny. But the Dee is always 'catch and release'. So, in short, no.
@happypat I believe that all Pacific salmon die after spawning, but about 30% of Atlantic salmon live to spawn again. So, it's not all doom and gloom! ;-)
