I've always liked country music since my parents listened to Jim Reeves, Johnny Cash, Slim Whitman et al. I loved Charley Pride as I used to babysit for an American family who played his music. So, when I heard that Suzy Bogguss was coming to Braemar, I jumped at the chance of tickets.
It was such a good concert, as it was not just Suzy Bogguss (left of image) but also Fiona Kennedy (a trustee of St. Margaret's), Paul Anderson (a very well known and talented local fiddler from Tarland - shame you can't see him well in this image), as well as Nils Elders, Verlon Thompson, and Doug Crider (Suzy's husband).
It was a fun translantic mix of country and Scottish (The road to Dundee, Wild Mountain Thyme).
What a wonderful experience that must have been. I grew up with much the same kind of music and even today we love listening to country music. It sounds as if I would have loved that combination.
That sounds utterly fantastic! Wild Mountain Thyme is one of my all time favourite songs. We lived in Dublin for a couple of years and adored going to traditional Irish music evenings. Something wonderful about both folk and country music.
Sounds a great night & like you I love all those singers too! I’m always amazed how low key country music is in the UK as it’s so popular in America & in New Zealand where are grandchildren are the young ones love country music.
