The Old Oak Trees by jamibann

The Old Oak Trees

As I looked at Craigendarroch (Hill of The Oaks) behind our house, I visualised a picture forming of a full frame of oak trees. There are other types of trees on this hill, but there's a swathe of old oaks there and in winter they have an interesting look and colour as they are covered in lichen.
Very unusual photo.

So subtle the green. When I first looked I thought it was lichen! I can’t help but wonder how you took this photo, it looks like from above!

You’ve certainly captured a different colour in winter. Bring on summer!!

My first thought was "frost covered trees". I do love the way you present Scotland to us! It's one of the countries I may never get to visit, but you bring the beauty, the rugged countryside and the wonderful vocabulary to us, up close and personal (for knowing you!)

Hard to get the perspective & size of these oak trees & I'm sure they are much bigger than they look here. They just look completely like low lying lichen …….how the eye deceives!

Perfectly fills the frame. These oak trees create an amazing mosaic of shapes and tones

How interesting. Our oaks still have their brown leaves on at this time of year

@illinilass It was taken from our upstairs bedroom window, looking across at the hill.

@busylady Really? No leaves left here ... all scattered on the ground. Lovely to walk on on this hill.

Many of our trees (Oaks included) are covered in lichen too- but mostly on the trunks. Great view.
