These Wasps on the fallen Ivy have frozen in place in the overnight frost. Most of the hundreds have disappeared and those that remain are very very slow moving but still determined to try to feed.

The numbers have plummeted from many hundreds to possibly 100 overnight after a frost. As insects, their days in the sun are limited. As male insects even more so. The pregnant Queens will have found cosy nest sites to overwinter leaving the males to their natural fate.
