Best by far on black. One of the things that was most thrilling about the Palouse trip was what I got to learn about light and shadows and how they are such huge factors in good photographs. I realized when I got back home to another week of overcast skies, that I've never really grocked the expression "it's all about the light" because so much of the time we have flat light. Now I see how quickly the light changes, how much difference the angle makes, how profoundly it impacts the lines and textures. I feel pretty dumb to just finally actually being able to "see" it! Better late than never.

I absolutely love, love, love this extraordinary shot. The light and shade are incredible as are the patterned blocks of lines. The image is almost an abstract and then, bingo, there's a whopping big tractor and seeders in the shot. Fabulous. I know what you mean about flat light, we have periods of that here, the past week being one of them. Hard to envisage decent shots in this light.
