First Star Trails Attempt by jgpittenger

First Star Trails Attempt

@mikegifford gave me a push challenge of star trails. Weather report looked as if we'd have cloud cover all week, but we didn't. But we do have a very bright sky with the almost full moon. I'm pretty disappointed with this but I'll be trying it again when the sky is dark again.

Great first try Jane! I would definitely close the aperture more though, to f/16 or f/22 to keep it dark; and decrease ISO to 100 :)

@grizzlysghost Thanks Aaron. I was going by what I found on line. I'll try your ideas

Great first try! As Aaron mentions, drop the ISO to 100 and raise the aperture. Did you stack or is the EXIF info correct at 323 sec (~5.4 min)?

@mikegifford Exif is right. I was trying to get my remote to take multiple shots but couldnt get it to. Not sure what the trick on that is. I found a stacking program that doesn't require photoshop...I just have elements 10. I'll keep working on this. A definite push!

@jgpittenger Does your camera have a built-in intervalometer ? Look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intervalometer
Many of the DSLR have this capability. Once you get your camera setup you then set the timing interval.

At least you'll get a dark sky - ours is never dark. Looks like you've got the technique right as well.

The blue sky is quite different
