We ventured out to Prime Lake for a last hike yesterday before we move. This has been one of our favorites. It is off the beaten track of hikes even though it is part of the Arizona Trail system. The rains had taken a bit of a respite so the trail was only gicky muddy is a few spots. The area was so beautiful and green and even the lake had water. Riley loved be able to run and hunt for lizards. She did have an encounter with a prickly pear cactus while looking for said reptiles near some rocks. We did get one last spine out of her snout at home. She won't have to be worried about cacti in her new home in Oregon.
Thank you all so very very much. Northern Arizona is a magical place but there will be magic spots to find in Oregon too. My husband and I loved finding off the grid sorta spots to hike and this filled the bill just perfectly. We even encountered an elk one morning, she was as surprised as we were when we 'met'. It amazes me how tall those majestic creatures truly are.
