This is an antique 4' stone lantern in my yard, and it's supposed to have a candle in it to "light the way" for travelers. But there's too much snow to reach it, and as you can tell from the screen, I'm safely inside my porch.
I've photographed this lantern many times, in various seasons, as it's a focal point in my backyard. I love it -- I saw it in San Francisco years ago and instantly wanted it, so we had it trucked to Chicago so I could see it every day. A taste of my home country in my American backyard.

This works well for two aspects of photography -- the idea of b&w as art, given the way the screen creates a texture for the image and then the image itself, and b&w as documentary in that it captures the day to day look of deep snow we're experiencing right now.
Taffy has expressed her view far better than I could. I love all the light and shadow, and that amount of snow is incredible, and makes for a lovely image.
