An Old Cotswold Dovecote by ladymagpie

An Old Cotswold Dovecote

Hundreds of years ago many big houses had dovecotes for obviously doves but also pigeons. They were kept for meat, eggs and manure.

This one I found just as you come into my village and dates from the 17th century and looks lovely on the roadside. It's not in use anymore and it's a pity that modern cables come into view. I have been trying to take this picture for weeks but unfortunately the adjoining house has been under scaffolding and I didn't want that in the picture, you might just see it through the tree.

Best viewed with the magnify button above the pic.
A superb capture of a historic building. love the contrasting textures. Fav.

Do you know how lucky you are to live near so many wonderful old buildings?
