If you needed a picture to some up the Stroud Valleys then you have it here. There are 5 valleys all with fast flowing rivers all along them. Over the years up to a hundred mills have been built using the rivers to power the looms and machinery for cloth making. The surrounding hills full of sheep from where the wool comes.
This is Brimscombe Port Mill, one of the biggest in the area and dates about 1780, about the same time as the canals opened. There has been a mill here since the 12th century. I know the building well as I worked here for 10 years in the 70's, but then it was engineering.
Today only 2 mills still make cloth, green for the snooker tables and the famous red cloth for the Coldstream Guards.

@philcameron59 There are plans to restore the port, remember it's inland and the junction of The Stroudwater and The Thames and Severn Canals. I it happens modern flats and homes will be included.
