The Heart of a Village. by ladymagpie

The Heart of a Village.

It was a quick "Snap and Dash" today with the weather so changeable, rain and wind kept me at home for most of the day.

A lovely named Leonard Stanley is the next village along the road from mine, and is typical of a pretty Cotswold Village. You won't find any modern monstrosities built in the center of this village. As I took this picture a farm tractor chugged by, the only sound you could hear.

Here is the church of St. Swithuns still calling all to worship for the past 800 years. In the front wall you will see the village water fountain, again about the same date, and finally on the village green the War Memorial with the names of the villagers that gave their lives in both the First & Second World War.
what a great capture beautiful place

That is really a beautiful church. Are you anywhere near Wiltshire? That is where my paternal ancestors come from.
April 7th, 2014
@lynnilou Thank you Lyn, yes very close to Wiltshire and in fact that is where I was born and my ancestors come from.
April 7th, 2014
..we may be related then!!! Hahah!!! My ancestors came out to South African in 1820 on the Weymouth in Fords Party, and apparently their parent's graves are in the graveyard in Wiltshire. One of my cousins went there a few years ago and took a few photos. The Dicks family :)
April 7th, 2014
@lynnilou Lyn, use my direct email and perhaps I could look into your family as I am an amateur genealogist, I have my family in Wiltshire back to 1600, they were all blacksmiths up until my Grandfather. What village in Wiltshire did they live and could you give me any christian names to go with Dicks. Email: middleyard.lady@gmail.com
April 7th, 2014
@lynnilou I've already found an article on several Dick's family that traveled in 1820. Interesting.
April 7th, 2014
Oh I will do that, for sure! Thanks. @ladymagpie I will see if I can find my family tree stuff, and let you know via email.
