It was a quick "Snap and Dash" today with the weather so changeable, rain and wind kept me at home for most of the day.
A lovely named Leonard Stanley is the next village along the road from mine, and is typical of a pretty Cotswold Village. You won't find any modern monstrosities built in the center of this village. As I took this picture a farm tractor chugged by, the only sound you could hear.
Here is the church of St. Swithuns still calling all to worship for the past 800 years. In the front wall you will see the village water fountain, again about the same date, and finally on the village green the War Memorial with the names of the villagers that gave their lives in both the First & Second World War.
..we may be related then!!! Hahah!!! My ancestors came out to South African in 1820 on the Weymouth in Fords Party, and apparently their parent's graves are in the graveyard in Wiltshire. One of my cousins went there a few years ago and took a few photos. The Dicks family :)
@lynnilou Lyn, use my direct email and perhaps I could look into your family as I am an amateur genealogist, I have my family in Wiltshire back to 1600, they were all blacksmiths up until my Grandfather. What village in Wiltshire did they live and could you give me any christian names to go with Dicks. Email: middleyard.lady@gmail.com
@brillomick Thanks Mickey, yes every town, village or city have there own war memorial where they remember there own people that died. The names are always on the memorial.
@hwhittle77 I can understand how you can miss England and all the countryside, yet they say Australia is nice as well. Hope my photos help you remember.
