There is one place I hate to get stuck whilst driving, and that is at a railway crossing. Yesterday I was held up near to my first ever home and I find it so frustrating that it can be such a long wait. There are signs telling you to switch off your engines because of the houses nearby, so all you can do is twiddle your fingers.
After what seems a lifetime you start to hear a buzzing sound come from the rail-track which seems to get louder every second. You don't know whether the train is coming from the left or from the right so I got my camera out in anticipation, Suddenly there is a WOOOOOOOOOOSH and the train has gone in seconds.
You start the car ready to pull away and wait, and wait, and wait for the gates to open. You then realise that there must be another coming from the opposite direction. How long can you play I Spy with yourself, must remember not to use this route again.
There is one near me and those barriers are more down than up. Sometimes I have to wait for 3 trains to pass and they close the gates 5 minutes before the first one passes. Nice photo by the way Heather.
Have often thought train crossings would make good photo...and you just proved they do!! (I photographed trains at various places for my grandson not long ago - none made it to 365) Sorry about the wait - but great capture :)
But you did get a great capture! I live very near the tracks (doesn't bother me because my hearing aids are out most of my time at home) and I keep hoping I will get stopped at the crossing just so I can take a photo...no luck yet...
Better to wait than make a run for it. Ours are endless freight trains and if you don't play your cards right the same train can catch you at various crossings.
I am terrified of these, if I am not driving I close my eyes
