I was a bit lost for today's photograph but stopped off yesterday at my local church next to the old manor house. The Lord of the Manor, Sir Samual Marling built the church in 1862 and I expect he just said, "When I die just drop me in a hole next to the wall".
Well they didn't just drop him in a hole but made a hole and a tomb in the outer church wall. He was the first in there, followed by his relatives:
Sir Samuel S Marling (Baronet)(Died 1883)
Dame Margaret W Marling (Wife Died 1885)
Charles Marling (Sec Son Died 1862)
Dame Mary Emily Marling (Wife Died 1918)
Sir William Henry Marling (Sec. Baronet)(Died 1919)
Colonel Sir Percival Scrope Marling VC (Third Baronet)(Died 1936)
Lady Beatrice Caroline Marling (Wife Died 1941)
Lt. Colonel Sir John S.V. Marling (Forth Baronet)( Died 1977)
Lady Majorie Marling (His second Wife)(Died 1988)
What would worry me, if I had the surname Marling and living in this area I would know where I was going to be buried - I DON'T WANT TO KNOW.
Such a great capture and interesting history.Fyi Like the Marling ffamily, I know my burial spot. I even have my foot stone placed there with my name. It's shaped like
an open Bible. I'll take a capture next time I visit!
Beautifully framed shot, Lady M, and thank you for taking the time to publish the inscriptions. A great photograph, with all additional information supplied. Great work x
