All around the valleys the villagers walk to their local worshiping place for morning prays. It may be a large church in a bigger town or a small chapel in the little villages, there is always a place to pray.
This is in the village on the edge of the hillside and was said to have been built because the area had the reputation of providing all the beggars seen around Stroud. It was assumed this poor state of affairs existed because the residents were too far away from the church in Stroud and ‘its civilising influence.
It was built in 1802 and the bigger building added in 1828 with the increase of church goer's nearing 200. Unfortunately congregations have slowly declined. View with the dark surround if you have time.
Thank you for all your comments on the mermaid yesterday and no I didn't have fish for dinner in the end.
Very pleasing capture, just love those round arched windows. Would be good to sing your heart out in here in the hope that the people in the valley would hear. We must be thankful for many buildings built in the area around this time.
What a lovely chapel. Reminds me of the one in the village where my Nanna used to live. She attended chapel, church, Sally Army, spiritualist church, the lot. Not that she was overly religious, she just loved to sing and anyone who had a choir, Nanna was a member.
