Just Lift me Up. by ladymagpie

Just Lift me Up.

The other day I gave you an old bridge that was in the middle of the field and the canal had been filled in. Well just 3 miles further along the canal the volunteer Trust has opened this new bridge yesterday replacing a concrete fixed bridge that nothing could pass under.

The solid bridge they have taken out goes into a factory and was built to replace the original 1790's wooden swing bridge before there were any plans to restore the canal. I think we can see the volunteers have given this section a real lift with a lifting bridge, view with the dark surround.

Thank you for all your recent comments and FAV's
That looks a real neat bridge

Not as much character as the stone, but more efficient!

That's a proper bridge Heather.....nothing would be rude enough to get stuck under there!

Looks very functional though not so aesthetically pleasing as the old ones.

So glad that in the 21st Century the new bridge is doing what the origional 18th C bridge was meant to do.

Interesting capture, Heather. Your narratives that go with your pictures are so informative!

Great picture, the bridge might blend in better once the ground around has been landscaped, and I'm sure lots of boats will be passing under it?!

Third bridge is a charm?

Who has permission to open the bridge?

Great they have reopened this! Sad it's modern day bridge though :)

Interesting bridge Heather. Is it operated by the people on the narrow boats or does someone do it for them. Our local lock is 'manned' part time otherwise it's a DIY job
