Before I start my tale I want you to remember that I'm almost as wide as I am tall, and being very vertically challenged, perhaps rotund and stumpy may be a proper description. Enjoy my story:
I went geocaching into the countryside yesterday on my own (Don't tell the kids), and was passing one that I had given up on several times as a ditch blocked my way, and the terrain was difficult. I looked at the ditch this time and sorted out a route down and up the other side.
I then had to push my way through a hawthorn bush to reach the entrance to a WW11 pillbox, (not one of those for putting tablets in). The entrance was only about 41/2 foot high and narrow before taking a right turn into the darkness.
I found then that the doorway had been half bricked in and I had to get my leg over this wall whilst being bent double in this narrow tunnel. I don't know how I got the first leg over, but with the floor lower on the other side I was struggling to get the other over the top. (Didn't think I would ever say that I couldn't get a leg over) Like a cork out of a bottle I was in and started my search for the box which was hidden down a hole in front of one of the machine-gun slits.
Found it and a photograph to prove I was in there. I then suddenly thought, am I trapped in here, would my phone work in a concrete bunker, how long would it take for someone to find me. Well I must have made it out so that I can tell the story and also let you see this lovely old mill from inside a pillbox.
What an adventure! I enjoyed the story very much, but I think you took a big chance by posting it! If the kids read this, you may be placed under house arrest! A nice capture and a fav for me!
What an eventful day you have had. Great photo though. You wouldn't get inside a structure like this in Australia. God knows what nasties there could be in there.
I'm new to your adventures as you know and this one made me laugh picturing you climbing in. Lucky you managed to get out again - imagine if they'd had to call the fire brigade or something - I can picture your eyes peering out at everyone through the little window.
