The beautiful weekend has signaled the start of the glider season from the nearby glider club. They spend ages soaring above my home which gives me the opportunity to lounge on my patio with the camera to hand.
They take off, usually with the help of an aircraft tug, from the top of the hill in front of my home and after being released use the air currents to circle and gain more height. So for the rest of the season I will watch them with one serious thought in my head, "Why would anyone in their right mind go up in an aircraft that hasn't got an engine", answers on a postage stamp.
Thank you for all your comment's and FAV's, I will get to all yours a little late as I have a doctors appointment, nothing serious so don't worry.
I've been in one and been in the tug plane (two-seater) taking photos for thje local guide when it launched one! One-off experience - but a good one. Near Storrington W Sx. Fav
@ivan was readind all the comments and noticed you mentioned Storrington - my father's family all came from there (we're now in Australia!) I was wondering if it is close to you? Sorry to hijack your site Lady Magpie!
I find gliders exciting to watch for some reason! Didn't want to go up in one but like seeing the ability of an engineless flying bird to get back to base!
