Lunchtime I went off to visit a good friend of mine who lives in a village above our valleys. She needed some important items for her 3 lovely dogs which I got with my food delivery by that nice man Yammy.
I decided to come back through a village called Bisley to take some captures of various places in that village. It's famous for many things which include these 7 wells which spring from the ground below the churchyard which stands high behind those bushes. It was once said that the souls of the villagers buried here come out with the water and live on in life.
The wells, as you see them here, were built in 1863 and every May on Ascension Day they have a ceremony called Dressing the Wells. After a church service a procession with a band moves around the village with all the schoolchildren, scouts, guides etc. marching along carrying flowers which are placed everywhere around wells followed by a little services.
You can see the remains of some of these flowers still in place, it looks lovely all the year round.
Such a wonderful place , great shot and history - so good to keep traditions alive . My only concern is that this is below the cemetery and I wouldn't want to drink the water !!!!!!!!
How very beautiful Heather....it must all look amazing when just done....a trip fir next year perhaps? They do Well Dressing in Derbyshire too so good to see it’s alive & well in your neck of the woods.
