The other day I showed you an old house that had a lovely gazebo in their walled garden. Well also in my village is a home with a dovecote, I think I prefer this as I am a bird lover and also a Lady Magpie.
The wall in front has just been rebuilt and the post-box reset in the wall. Just to the left of the box is an old mile post, used to indicate how far the next town or village is away.
There is another lovely gate in the wall which seems very popular in this area. I am sorry about the telegraph pole, it was a bit big for me to lift out of the way.
Early dovecotes were used to farm pigeons or doves. On a practical level, doves and pigeons provided a source of food for the table, as well as feathers for the aristocratic household and manure for the estate. Lords often showcased their right to keep doves by placing dovecotes in highly visible positions on their estates, such as close to approach roads or next to the main entrance or gatehouse to their residences. This meant that the inhabitants of the neighbouring settlement and those travelling through the local landscape could easily see and admire them.
No regarding pigeon pie, I have tried it once but never again, horrible and it caused me to keep flapping my arms, making cooing noises and roosting on a pole in the lounge.
A superb construction.
I'm sure that the pole was no problem at all for you, but you just did not want people to stop and stare at you. They micht have asked you to join those pole throwing games they hold in Scotland (i think?).
How did you get rid of those symptoms after the pie??? Horrible 😄
If you allow me, i would really like one day to draw from this picture as well.
Your pigeon pie made me smile... ☺☺
